Job Description

The EHS Supervisor directs the maintenance, implementation, and continuous improvement of comprehensive environmental, health and safety programs/practices for the plant. This includes ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws/regulations and standards to meet or exceed relevant safety & environmental standards in a manner consistent with sound business practice. The EHS Supervisor will direct the work of other salary and/or hourly employees within the department.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety laws as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement environmental and safety policies, programs, and training.
  • Maintain employee training records.
  • Effectively report and manage all workers' compensation cases. Successfully resolve cases by following up, seeking out legal counsel and attending worker's compensation hearings.
  • Guide general safety programs including but not limited to the following: Concern Reporting, Lock-out/Tag-out, Hot Work, Control of Hazardous Waste, Confined Space, OSHA Recordkeeping, Air Emissions Management, Wastewater and Storm Water Management, and Environmental Remediation.
  • Perform accident and near miss investigations to determine causation and make work process improvements to eliminate future incidents.
  • Manage emergency response including emergency evacuation and coordinating outside emergency response agencies.
  • Inspect workplaces and minimize or eliminate hazards from processes, materials and incorrect working methods.
  • Formulate training outlines and determine instructional methods to most effectively educate the workforce on proper safety practices.
  • Lead the new hire onboarding orientation related to safety and work environment based precautions.
  • Effectively manage personnel and budget to meet targeted objectives.

Essential Skills & Abilities:

  • Detailed knowledge of OSHA, EPA and other applicable industry environmental, health and safety standards.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate performance metrics and outcomes.
  • Superior communication skills - verbal and written.
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills with the ability to develop multiple solutions to an issue and make valid recommendations for resolution.
  • Ability to work calmly in a high stress and high pressure situation.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with all levels of the organization from corporate, regional and plant management to supervisors and hourly employees in the production areas.
  • Able to work well in a team environment and independently

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in EHS, Safety, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or related field.
  • 2-5 years working in Safety/EH&S in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, etc).
  • Strong communicator with a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and dynamic situations in a complex work environment.
