Nurses in the Department of Surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital manage patients in a variety of surgical specialties, including general surgery, endocrine, trauma, orthopedics, urology, Otolaryngology, head and neck, transplant, and cardiovascular surgery, as well as levels of care including Intensive Care, Intermediate Care, and Acute Care. We provide expert, family-centered care and serve as a hub for advanced research and education. What you will do:

We are seeking a dynamic, results-driven nursing leader with a strong background in operations and management. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver and strategic thinker with demonstrated success in process improvement, patient throughput, and staffing optimization. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on adult surgical care by supporting our teams in delivering the highest quality, patient- and family-centered care. The Assistant Director of Nursing assists the Director of Nursing in the organization, development, and operation of the nursing department within the Department of Surgery. As designated by the Director of Nursing, assumes responsibility for clinical operations, programs, various nurses in leadership or advanced practice roles, and/or professional support staff. The Assistant Director of Nursing participates in the functional unit, the department of nursing, and hospital programs and/or committees. In the absence of the Executive Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing assumes responsibility for nursing service within the department.

What You Will Bring:



  1. Master's Degree from an accredited school of nursing.
  2. RN license from the state of Maryland.
  3. Five years of clinical nursing experience with a least two years' experience in nursing management; preferably in inpatient surgery.


Salary Range: Minimum 62.12/hour - Maximum 96.28/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
