The Surgical Shift Coordinators are part of the leadership team in the Department of Nursing and Surgery and work closely with the Capacity Command Center, the Director of Nursing, Assistant Directors of Nursing, nurse managers, charge nurses, and nursing staff to manage the patient flow, staffing, emergency, and rapid response events. They assist with patient management and upgrading patients as needed, work closely with Bed Management, charge nurses, and the Float Pool and Resource Management Office to ensure surgical cases are moved through the system and patients are in the appropriate level of care. The Shift Coordinators (Registered Nurses, RNs) work closely with the charge nurses, Resource Management Office, and ADONs and DON to ensure staffing is adequate to meet patient needs for the shift and appropriate for each unit's staffing standard. They also manage patient, HR, and management concerns and communicate appropriately with the DON and ADONs.

The Nursing Shift Coordinator is responsible for facilitating delegated administrative and clinical activities for nursing in a functional unit. This person possesses the clinical and management knowledge and ability to provide guidance and assistance to nursing personnel and other health care team members in patient care situations. Role includes facilitating the interpretation and implementation of policies and standards.

Qualifications:



  • BSN/MSN from an accredited nursing program required.
  • Active Maryland or Compact RN license is required
  • BLS CPR certification required
  • ACLS CPR certification required
  • Must have at least 5 years of RN work experience in Surgery
  • Must have ICU experience
  • Ability to lead others, assist in development & implementation of procedures for the unit, use principles of conflict resolution, recommend resource utilization, and implement performance management of staff.

Salary Range: Minimum 51.22/hour - Maximum 79.39/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
