The Surgical Shift Coordinators are part of the leadership team in the Department of Nursing and Surgery and work closely with the Capacity Command Center, the Director of Nursing, Assistant Directors of Nursing, nurse managers, charge nurses, and nursing staff to manage the patient flow, staffing, emergency, and rapid response events. They assist with patient management and upgrading patients as needed, work closely with Bed Management, charge nurses, and the Float Pool and Resource Management Office to ensure surgical cases are moved through the system and patients are in the appropriate level of care. The Shift Coordinators (Registered Nurses, RNs) work closely with the charge nurses, Resource Management Office, and ADONs and DON to ensure staffing is adequate to meet patient needs for the shift and appropriate for each unit's staffing standard. They also manage patient, HR, and management concerns and communicate appropriately with the DON and ADONs. The Nursing Shift Coordinator is responsible for facilitating delegated administrative and clinical activities for nursing in a functional unit. This person possesses the clinical and management knowledge and ability to provide guidance and assistance to nursing personnel and other health care team members in patient care situations.
