STGi is currently seeking a Registered Nurse Supervisor to provide services at our Texas State Veterans Home. This position is paid hourly and eligible for overtime.

The William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home is located in Temple, TX. Our staff provides compassionate and specialized care to our nation's veterans. We focus on providing the best experience for residents and their families.



JOB SUMMARY: To provide supervision, coordination, and evaluation of the day-to-day nursing activities in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern the facility on a 24 hours per day, 7 days per week basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* During assigned shift as Facility Supervisor assumes 24-hour oversight for resident care and nursing staff.

* Receives report from the outgoing facility Supervisor.

* Monitor staffing levels for existing and next scheduled shift based on acuity levels.

* Responds to any crisis situation during assigned shift.

* Ensures that nursing personnel comply with the written policies and procedures established by this facility.

* Periodically reviews the department's policies, procedure manuals, job descriptions, etc. Makes recommendations for revisions.

* Reviews the resident's written care plan as indicated and participates in updating of the resident's written care plan as required.

* Completes and reviews accident/incident reports and follow up as necessary to QA Director and DON/ ADON. Reports and investigates all allegations of resident abuse (including physical,

verbal, mental, sexual, involuntary seclusion, neglect, and misappropriation of property.)

* Completes daily, weekly, and monthly audits and submits to ADON/DON/QA as required.

* Maintains the Daily Census Report and submits to the Business Office or designee per facility process.

* Makes rounds on unit to ensure resident care needs and environmental standards are met. Facility Supervisor is responsible for investigating and managing any problem areas in the facility and reporting outcomes to the ADON/DON.

* Actively participates in committees/programs as directed by the ADON/DON.

* Actively participates in the Quality Assurance process, possibly to include attendance at Quality Assurance meetings and submission of required reports each month.

* Ensures changes in resident's condition are communicated to the physician, family, or responsible party. Meets with residents, and/or family members, as necessary.

* Attends and participates in facility mandated in service.

* Maintains a written record of resident grievances and indicates actions taken to resolve and the current status of the grievance.

* Participates in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.

* Acts as a resource for nursing staff.

* Works collaboratively with ADON/DON and Staff Development to identify and provide orientation and continuing education for nursing staff members.

* Provides direct nursing care, as necessary.

* Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

* Must possess a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university or be a graduate of an approved RN program.

* Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN in the state of Texas.

* Must possess leadership/and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel. One-year prior experience in the field of nursing management and supervision preferred.

* Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

* Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.

* Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.

* Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.

* Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.

* Must be able to assess and relate information concerning a resident's condition.

* Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

* Must be willing to be on-call and to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and nights as required.

Required Experience

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

* Must possess a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university or be a graduate of an approved RN program.

* Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN in the state of Texas.

* Current Basic Life Support (BLS)/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required prior to performing work, preferably from American Heart Association (AHA), or have the ability to obtain certification within thirty (30) days of employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Works in well-lighted/ventilated areas.

* Most of the work is performed indoors.

* Is subject to :frequent intem1ptions.

* The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

* Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.

* Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc.

* Communicates with the medical staff, nursing staff, and other department supervisors.

* Works beyond normal duty hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.

* May be exposed to bodily fluids, infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including the AIDS and hepatitis B viruses.

* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; implements or office equipment; reach with hands and a1111s; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.

* Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.

* Collect information through observation, listening, touching, and smelling.

* Must have auditory ability sufficient to monitor and assess.

* Job requires regular sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, writing, and carrying charts, food, trays, etc.

* Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.

* Employee may be required to move chairs, beds, and medical equipment, move patients in bed (with or without assistance).

* Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

* Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the residents, personnel, and support agencies.

* Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.

* Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.

* May be required to lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, etc., in excess of fifty (50) pounds.
