Job Overview:

The SPD Technician Certified serves as a critical component in the healthcare system, ensuring the sterility and availability of medical instruments and supplies. This professional focuses on managing, sterilizing, and distributing medical supplies. The role is fundamental to maintaining the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of medical and surgical procedures.

This professional must be well-versed in infection control protocols and adhere to stringent standards to prevent the transmission of pathogens. The position demands meticulous attention to detail and a comprehensive understanding of various sterilization techniques and equipment.

This professional must remain current with best practices and regulations around sterilization processes, as well as the proper handling and maintenance of medical instruments. Additionally, the role may encompass inventory control, ensuring that medical professionals have timely access to the necessary tools and supplies. By underpinning the medical field's rigorous safety standards, this role contributes significantly to patient outcomes and the overall functionality of healthcare services.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Preferred:

  • 1-3 years Central Sterile Processing experience
  • Certification: CER or CFER

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • CRCST - Must be certified by the IAHCSMM or the Sterile Processing board as mandated by the New Jersey State Department of Health
    • Must accrue CEUs to maintain current certification

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Shift working, Monday-Friday 6:00PM-2:00AM. No weekends.
  • Please note, some holidays are required. Starting times are 8:00AM and 11:00AM.
  • Full-Time (FT)

Essential Functions:

  • Collecting used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for sorting and decontamination
  • Manually cleaning supplies of contaminants, removing waste matter, and operating and maintaining decontamination equipment
  • Preparing and packing decontaminated supplies for sterilization
  • Monitoring and operating sterilization equipment
  • Examining supplies meticulously to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized
  • Testing and reporting any issues or problems with the sterilization equipment
  • Sterilizing, preparing, wrapping, and organizing equipment into instrument trays for use during medical procedures
  • Preparing and delivering all necessary equipment and instruments for surgeries, examinations, medical procedures, and medical carts
  • Maintaining records of sterilization procedures, sterilized items, equipment maintenance, and supplies
  • Controlling the inventory, reordering supplies, and checking expiration dates
  • Delivering and distributing supplies and equipment to various departments and patient care areas, which may include stocking par-level carts
