Your education is just the beginning - you'll become an active member of our Corporate Information Technology Network team located in Niles, OH. During our 12-week internship program, you'll tackle real-world challenges through impactful assignments, and work alongside our industry changemakers.

The Intern - Infrastructure - Network (IT) will

In this hands-on role, you will work alongside experienced network engineers to support the design, maintenance, and optimization of our enterprise network infrastructure. This internship is ideal for students pursuing degrees in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields who want real-world experience in networking technologies and operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the monitoring and troubleshooting of network performance, connectivity, and security issues.

• Help provision, configure, and maintain network equipment such as switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points.

• Participate in network upgrades, hardware installations, and documentation efforts.

• Support routine network maintenance tasks including patching, updates, and performance tuning.

• Collaborate with engineers to test new technologies, tools, and automation scripts.

• Update and maintain network diagrams, configuration files, and internal documentation.

• Contribute to ongoing projects such as network modernization, security hardening, or cloud integration.

Intern Impact Project:

Project Overview
Lead a focused initiative to strengthen our network's reliability, visibility, and security. This project will deliver tangible improvements in monitoring, documentation, and vulnerability management across all network devices.

Network Monitoring & Visibility

• Configure network monitoring with Solarwinds for realtime traffic, latency, and error metrics.

• Create dashboards that display key metrics (packet loss, bandwidth utilization, device uptime) to the operations team.

• Automate alerting with thresholdbased and anomalydetection rules.

Comprehensive Documentation

• Improvement of all existing network documentation.

  • Inventory all network assets (routers, switches, firewalls, wireless controllers) with serial numbers, firmware versions, and physical locations.

  • Update topology diagrams and keep them versioncontrolled in a central repository.

• Consult and interact with Howmet's global business customers and company user groups to gather requirements and to solicit feedback on the success of delivered products.
• Analysis, design, system development, and life-cycle methodologies.
• Translate customer business requirements into technical solutions identifying key deliverables.
• Hands On work with Cisco and Palo Alto Networking Technologies.
• Follow departmental processes procedures and produce required documentation.
• Work independently, directly with customers, as well as assigned work group.

Your Education, Skills, and Experience:

* Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Math or other related IT field with an expected graduation date in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027.

* Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or equivalent

* Foundational understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing & switching)

* Demonstrated internship, work, research, or extracurricular participation

* A willingness to learn and take initiative to understand the business

* Involved with at least 1 extracurricular activity

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite

* Interns must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Educations, Skills, and Experience:

* Previous internship in Information Technology with a global employer

* Aptitude for problem solving.

* Project experience with security tools or procedures

* Interest in network automation, cloud networking or cybersecurity

* Ability to manage projects and working within team in a fast-paced environment
