General Dynamics Land Systems is seeking a Design Services Area Manager in our Design Services Management department. This role will design, lead and guide the team.

Position Description:

  • Uses, reviews, and approves technical data package (TDP) detailed design models (3D) and drawings using digital CAD/CAE modeling tools (ProE, NX). Supports transition of the TDP for Production level manufacturing operations at GDLS sites. TDP must include proper references to applicable engineering specifications, geodetic tolerancing, and technical notes.
  • Assesses design products and manages the development and quality over organic and contract design engineers and designers including designs of structures, cooling systems, mechanical mechanisms, etc. Assessments include design for manufacturing (DFM) to improve producibility and vehicle-level integration.
  • Uses and reviews the results of CAD quality checking tools to improve TDP quality and proficiency.
  • Work across Design Services to manage the technical transition to Model Based Design (MBD), use of Automation, and Quality checking tools.
  • Innovate Design Engineering and Design Services processes to increase quality and speed of implementation.
  • Attend project kick-off meetings and evaluate scope of work to prepare formal cost estimates.
  • Prepare schedules and manage multiple budgets, including indirect costs and capital expenses.
  • This role will be involved with the select, develop, and management of employees , including performance, training, and retention.
  • Coordinate daily work assignments and manage technical issues, fostering a team-based environment.
  • Manage departmental administrative matters and communicate with customers and government on technical issues.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems preferred but other technical degrees will be considered with relevant experience).
  • Minimum of 10+ years of related experience including design engineering release, use of applicable CAD/CAE modeling tools (ProE, NX) packages ,
  • Experience with mechanical engineering design principles.
  • A bachelor's degree in an Engineering or Technical discipline is required.
  • Experience working with Bargaining Unit (BU), union environment/employees is preferred.
  • Must be willing and able to work in a team-based environment.
  • Must be familiar with CAD tools and Microsoft software (Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Word, Etc.).
  • Must be able to travel on a limited basis.
  • Must have the ability to communicate across various organizational levels.
  • Ability to work overtime when necessary.
  • Strong background in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to form and lead teams of 20 plus employees.

  • This position will require eligibility to obtain a US security clearance. (Non-US Citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance).
