Job Summary

Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance. Administers organizational policies that directly affect subordinate employees. Recommends changes to unit or sub-unit policies. Management reviews work to measure meeting of objectives. Works on issues where analysis of situation or data requires review of relevant factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $87,900 - $187,700 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The UCSF Campus Supply Chain Department plays a critical role in supporting the organization's mission of advancing health worldwide by ensuring the efficient, cost-effective, and timely procurement of goods and services across the campus. The department oversees all aspects of purchasing, contracting, sourcing, logistics, inventory management, and supplier relations, with a strong focus on quality, compliance, and sustainability. As a strategic partner to research and administrative departments, Supply Chain is instrumental in driving operational excellence while reducing costs through data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement. The team operates within a complex academic research centered environment, requiring strong collaboration across UCSF Campus, UCSF Health, and UC system-wide initiatives.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 8 years relevant progressive experience
  • Thorough knowledge of the purchasing function
  • Strong supervisory skills required to lead purchasing group in department ensuring adherence to purchasing practices and guideline
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills required in interacting with both internal and external resources
  • Strong analytical skills necessary to evaluate the cost effectiveness of purchasing options and planning for major commodities
  • Advanced knowledge of procurement policies, the organization's departments and operations, and Federal Acquisition Regulations
  • Ability to read, interpret, develop and negotiate terms and conditions of contracts
