Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Student Intern.

In this role, the successful candidate The Student Intern will work on the Evaluation of the NYC Baby Boxes program. This position primarily entails reaching out to patients to administer surveys over the phone, recruiting patients for one-on-one interviews, and helping to conduct patient interviews. The surveys are administered using REDCap and take approximately 15 minutes to administer. We will provide training on administering the survey and recruiting for and assisting with the patient interviews.
About the Project: In collaboration with the NYC Mayors Office, NYC Health + Hospitals (H+H) is piloting the NYC Baby Boxes program, a new program designed to provide free boxes of supplies for babies and mothers to all families giving birth at H+H facilities. The boxes include diapers and wipes, clothing, bathing and feeding supplies, and the NYC New Family Resource Guide with information on maternal and baby health, benefit access and other City and community-based supports. The evaluation team from NYU Grossman School of Medicine (NYUGSOM) is conducting an 8-month mixed-methods evaluation focusing on patient outcomes and perspectives of the Baby Boxes pilot program. We anticipate that findings from this evaluation will provide evidence needed to improve the program at the participating H+H facilities and provide key suggestions for expanded services to other H+H facilities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Data collection: Contact patients and administer surveys using REDCap; Assist with patient interviews
  • Recruitment: Help to recruit patients for interviews
  • Communication: utilize strong verbal communication skills with study participants and with colleagues
  • Research knowledge: Demonstrate thorough knowledge of our research study, study rationale, and processes of the study.
  • Collaboration: Engage in team meetings and supervision.
  • Other research-related activities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
The student intern must be a full-time student, or if working in the summer months (Mid-May through Mid-Sept), must be planning to return to full-time status in the fall.

Preferred Qualifications:
Strong verbal communication and organizational skills.
Prior survey administration experience .
Background and/or coursework in public health or related research area.
Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently.
In addition to these qualifications, we are looking for someone with a personality suitable for the task. There are several sensitive topics covered in the survey (e.g., family needs, perceived stress) and the staff member must approach participants in such a way that they are comfortable being candid about their experiences.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $16.50 - $19.00 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
