DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, perform the full range of skilled journey-level plumbing work. Respond to trouble calls; inspect buildings, facilities, plumbing systems and components to ascertain required repairs.

Troubleshoot, repair and/or renovate buildings, facilities, and equipment in underground piping systems, building piping, fixtures, backflow assemblies, building equipment and controls. Coordinate services with campus customers and assist with questions regarding work performed. Provide expeditious, professional and courteous customer service.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proven journey level skills and experience performing modifications, repairs, installations and alterations to plumbing systems and components.

  • Experience planning, scheduling and ordering materials for all types of plumbing jobs.
    Skill in reading, interpreting and understanding blueprints, diagrams and other technical information to perform needed installations, modifications and repairs.

  • Ability to document plumbing system changes and/or new installations through written information and/or prints.

  • Ability to test and troubleshoot plumbing systems and correct problems when necessary.
    Proficiency in the use of hand tools, silver brazing, welding and soft soldering methods.

  • Ability to operate all sewer and storm drain cleaning equipment.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, self-motivation, adaptability, tactfulness and decisiveness.

  • Knowledge of and ability to use appropriate safety equipment.

  • Ability to test, troubleshoot, adjust, and align equipment machinery and plumbing components.

  • Required to possess a California Drivers License valid for the operation of any vehicle or equipment required to maintain and operate and/or have access to transportation to travel to various campus locations.

  • Ability to set priorities and workloads with minimal supervision, and plan work effectively in the field with customers and without direct supervision.

  • Thorough knowledge of UC San Diego maintenance requirements, workflow and acceptable quality standards for finished product acquired.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • DOJ/FBI, DMV background checks and clearances required prior to employment.

  • Required to hold valid driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.

  • Required to work overtime or alternate shift as operationally necessary.

  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $105,841 - $105,841 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $50.69 - $50.69

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
