Overview

We are hiring a Senior Construction Inspector to lead on-site inspection and contract administration for municipal roadway and public works projects. You will be the lead inspector guiding other inspection staff, ensuring strict compliance with project plans, specifications, safety requirements, and applicable standards.



Responsibilities

    Perform inspection of paving, sub-grade, structures, drainage, signing/striping, utilities, electrical installations, PCC sidewalk, traffic control, curb ramps, stamped/colored concrete, traffic signals, and landscaping items.
  • Check grade and alignment; verify construction traffic control; ensure compliance with project plans and specifications.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate daily reports, extra-work diaries, quantity calculations, progress payment documentation, and project correspondence.
  • Keep updated status logs of submittals, RFIs, and potential change orders.
  • Review contractor CPM schedules; monitor schedule and alert City to potential slippage.
  • Ensure all traffic control is properly set up; completely document lane and road closures.
  • Maintain updated field record drawings; assist with As-Built preparation.
  • Review SWPPP/WPCP activities for compliance.
  • Assist with responses to potential claims and preparation of documentation for claim reports.
  • Maintain continuous communication with City staff, public outreach, construction administration, and project neighbors to avert community issues.


Qualifications

Standards & References

  • Greenbook Standard Specifications and Standard Plans for Public Works Construction.
  • Caltrans Construction Manual.
  • Manual of Traffic Controls for Construction and Maintenance Work Zones.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least five (5) years working as a Resident Engineer or Senior Construction Inspector on municipal improvement projects of similar size and complexity.
  • Thorough knowledge of public works and Caltrans construction practices; ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
  • Ability to make effective decisions concerning field problems and work in progress.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed Civil Engineer in the State of California (preferred; may be waived with adequate experience).
  • Experience with CPM schedule review and documentation.

Safety & Equipment

  • Adhere to safety protocols; personnel wear white hard hats, safety vests, and rubber-soled shoes while working in the field.
  • Use appropriate instruments, tools, and testing equipment to perform inspections accurately, efficiently, and safely.

Wage Data Per State Requirements

Pay range for this position is $53.00/hr - $57.00/hr. The starting pay will be commensurate with skill, education, experience, and working environment.
