Registered Nurse (RN) - Abdominal Transplant

This position is aDual Rolethat will share time between the Abdominal Transplant unit and theAbdominalTransplant, Nephrology and SurgeryClinic. The position with be a 1.0 FTE (40 hours/week) where two 12-hour shifts/week will be spent on the inpatient unit and two 8-hour shifts/week will be spent in the outpatient clinic. Both areas serve the same patient population and will allow the RN to follow the patients through their continuum of care while enjoying a career with diverse setting.

TheAbdominal Transplant (6DCT) Unitis comprised of37beds. Our team of nursing staff provide exemplary care for a variety of complex patients with diagnosis such as Pre-Liver Transplant, Liver Transplant, Kidney Transplant, Pancreas Transplant, Small Bowel Transplant and Hand Transplant.

Department Highlights:

• RN to Patient Ratio is 1: 3-4

• Procedures/treatments frequently performed include diabetes management, pain management, wound care, telemetry, oxygen therapy, blood product administration, and IV management of fluids and medications.
• Affords the clinical experience to attain strong critical thinking skills, vast knowledge of disease processes and body systems, and robust care management skills.
• The unit cares for this patient population throughout the entirety of their Transplant experience beginning with inpatient care prior to transplant when necessary, care during their index Transplant stay, and care on any readmission. This fosters strong relationship between our patients and the care team while promoting continuity of care.
• Daily multidisciplinary Transplant Rounds encompassing all care providers involved with the patient's care; Case Management, Surgery, Medicine, Advanced Practice Providers, Transplant Coordinators, and Nursing

Clinic 2B/2C

TheAbdominal Transplant, Nephrology and Surgery Clinicis a multidisciplinary, multi-specialty outpatient clinic comprised of several different specialties, including Nephrology, Pain & Palliative Care, Liver/Intestine Transplant, Kidney/Pancreas Transplant, Interventional Radiology/ Vascular Radiology, General and Advanced GI surgery, Trauma Surgery, Transplant Psychology, and Transplant Infectious Disease. Clinic 2B/2C's multidisciplinary team approach to treatment is reflective in the type of patients seen. Patients seen are those with liver, intestine, pancreas, and or kidney disease, pre-solid organ transplant candidates, and those being evaluated for specialty surgeries.

• Treatments frequently performed include specimen collection, vital sign monitoring, medication and allergy review, wound care, IV management of fluids and medication administration.

What you will do:

As aClinical Nursein Duke University Health System, you will plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with the medical and nursing plans of care and established policies and procedures. Provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

• Plan, provide and document professional nursing care, utilizing the nursing process, in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures under the supervision of the team leader or charge nurse.
• Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers.
• Assist other healthcare personnel in the delivery of patient care.
• Participate in maintaining the environment of care including equipment and material resources. Prioritize work organization and identify resources available to assist in completing components of care in a timely manner.
• Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings.
• Support the development of other staff and formal learners.
• Participate in the identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and assist in performance improvement activities.

What you can expect:

• Multitask in myriad ways - document assessments, plan of care, interventions, evaluation and re-evaluation of patient status, access nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients, independently seek out resources and work collaboratively.

• Educate patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care.

What you will need:

• Graduation from an accredited Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (or higher) OR Associate's Degree in Nursing OR Nursing Diploma program.

***All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within seven years of their start date.

Licensure and Certification Required:

• Current registration with North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse

• BLS Certification
