Position Description

Within and additional to the responsibilities of the Manufacturing Engineer, demonstrate and mentor the systematic approach of the M.E. System in its framework of Process Planning, Plan Execution, and C.I.

Align with the Engineering and Plant Manager on expected M.E. System capabilities progression within the Manufacturing Engineering Dept. first, then other departments. Mentor the M.E. System processes toward this alignment, and visually manage the current state vs. planned state.

Be the facility champion for standardization of work processes and improvement of these processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Nature and Scope:
    • The M.E. System Champion must first demonstrate capabilities within the M.E. System thru practice of the respective processes with a coach. The capabilities progression criterion are defined and measurable. The requirement for this position is to progress to capable-to-mentor stage.
    • Once capable to mentor, will establish mentor-mentee relationships within the M.E. Dept. first, then with other departments in the facility as prioritized by facility leadership.
    • Will conduct mentor-mentee sessions with a coach's oversite as part of progression toward facility M.E. System champion.
    • Will develop mentees toward capable to mentor for respective processes to ensure the facility has depth in M.E. System capabilities.
  • Specific Accountabilities
    • Mentor the processes to the alignment plan.
    • Keep M.E. Mgr. apprised of the progress and obstacles to progress.
    • Continuously improve the processes used within the M.E. System framework.
    • Continue to drive standardization of work processes across the facility.
Required Education & Qualifications
  • BSME, BSEE, or BSIE required
  • 5-10 years minimum experience as a Manufacturing Engineer working in a similar industry
  • Launch management - demonstrated experience with structured APQP process - Project management - history of successful development and management of project plans for product launch in an "automotive similar" environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to take a product from drawing stage through mass production readiness validation as lead engineer for the project.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead improvement initiatives toward meeting target process conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply the scientific method at real place with real thing toward real facts.
  • Ideally has experience using a mentor-mentee coaching pattern such as the 5Q kata.
  • Work history within a facility that uses operationalized lean processes.
