The Engineering Lead (Architect) serves as the senior technical authority for the design, modernization, and integration of enterprise cyber sensing capabilities supporting the defense of the Department of Defense Information Network (DoDIN). This role is responsible for leading architecture development, technical decision-making, and system engineering efforts across multiple sensing platforms, including the Open Sensor Platform (OSP), Full Packet Capture (FPCAP), Automated Security Validation (ASV), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), and future sensing technologies.
The Engineering Lead (Architect) serves as the senior technical authority responsible for architecting, designing, modernizing, integrating, and guiding the evolution of DISA's enterprise cyber sensing capabilities. This role drives structured systems engineering, requirements decomposition, architecture development, verification strategies, and design governance across sensing platforms including Open Sensor Platform (OSP), Full Packet Capture (FPCAP), Automated Security Validation (ASV), Intrusion Detection System (IDS), and emerging sensing technologies.
This position operates at the intersection of systems engineering, architecture, requirements management, integration, cloud modernization, and verification/validation, ensuring sensing capabilities meet functional, security, performance, scalability, and mission objectives across lab, cloud, and operational DoD environments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead architecture, system design, and engineering activities supporting modernization and integration of enterprise cyber sensing capabilities
*
Establish structured requirements frameworks ensuring functional, security, and performance requirements are properly categorized, decomposed, and mapped
*
Develop enterprise, solution, and reference architectures using Government approved frameworks (DoDAF or equivalent)
*
Define system baselines, interface definitions, design artifacts, and system design descriptions
*
Drive preliminary and critical design development aligned with mission and operational requirements
*
Conduct requirements analysis, decomposition, and refinement supporting sensing modernization initiatives
*
Maintain full requirements traceability across Requirements Traceability Matrices (RTMs)
*
Establish and maintain System / Requirements Verification Traceability Matrices (S/RVTMs)
*
Ensure alignment between requirements, verification artifacts, test strategies, and acceptance criteria
*
Correlate requirements with cybersecurity controls and RMF mappings
*
Drive derivation of system, functional, and user-scenario test cases
*
Define validation strategies across physical, virtual, distributed, and cloud sensing environments
*
Establish verification methodologies supporting functional, security, and performance objectives
*
Define Test & Evaluation strategies, templates, and frameworks
*
Collaborate with Test Engineers to define performance benchmarks, integration validation, and interoperability objectives
*
Architect sensing solutions supporting hybrid and cloud environments (AWS / Azure / DISA Cloud)
*
Lead engineering trade studies, Analyses of Alternatives (AoAs), and modernization strategies
*
Define scalable sensing architectures supporting virtualization and distributed deployments
*
Evaluate cloud-based sensing and IDS solutions
*
Support unified sensing platform strategies
*
Provide engineering oversight for integration and interoperability of sensing platforms
*
Guide integration strategies across sensors, data brokers, analytics pipelines, and SIEM platforms
*
Ensure designs support operational performance, resilience, and scalability
*
Support sensing lab modernization, prototyping, and validation efforts
*
Ensure engineering, design, and test artifacts support RMF lifecycle activities
*
Ensure artifacts generate defensible evidence suitable for ATO, iATO, cATO, and pATO processes
*
Align architecture and design outputs with security control expectations
*
Collaborate with A&A personnel to integrate accreditation considerations early
*
Support Government technical reviews (SRR, SFR, PDR, CDR, TEMs)
*
Prepare technical briefs, white papers, engineering reports, and decision artifacts
*
Provide technical consultation supporting Government decision forums
*
Mentor and guide engineering personnel
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
*
Active DoD Secret clearance
*
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (Master's preferred)
*
Seven (7)+ years of experience in systems engineering, architecture, or complex system design
*
Strong understanding of requirements engineering, verification methodologies, and traceability frameworks (RTM, S/RVTM)
*
Experience architecting distributed systems, sensing platforms, or cybersecurity solutions
*
Experience developing system architectures, ICDs, system diagrams, and design artifacts
*
Experience supporting design and engineering review cycles (SRR/SFR/PDR/CDR)
*
Experience aligning engineering artifacts with RMF / ATO / accreditation environments
*
Strong understanding of networking, virtualization, distributed systems, and cloud architectures
*
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly
HIGHLY DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
*
Experience supporting DISA or DoD cyber programs
*
Experience with cyber sensing, IDS, packet capture, or telemetry-driven systems
*
Familiarity with IEEE 15288, MBSE principles, or structured systems engineering methodologies
*
Experience conducting Analyses of Alternatives (AoAs)

Experience supporting DevSecOps / CI/CD / scalable deployment models
