Lab Technician - Psychology

The Behavioral Pharmacology Laboratory at Davidson College invites applications for a one-year, full-time, research technician position in the Department of Psychology. The successful applicant will join an NIH-funded laboratory examining behavioral and pharmacological factors contributing to substance use and addiction using animal models (e.g., drug self-administration). Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in psychology, biology, or neuroscience with laboratory experience. The person accepting this position will assist in all aspects of research being conducted in the Behavioral Pharmacology Laboratory and will supervise and train students working in the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities and Duties



  • Prepare studies examining the effects of various pharmacological agents.
  • Test research subjects in behavioral and pharmacological experiments.
  • Maintain records and data from experiments being conducted.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment such as inventory, order equipment, order supplies, and prepare solutions.
  • Maintain and update all procedures in the laboratory manual.
  • Supervise, schedule, train, and recruit (with Dr. Smith) student research assistants.


Requirements



  • Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in psychology, biology, or neuroscience with laboratory experience
  • The individual must have basic knowledge of psychological and biological concepts and theories.
  • The individual must have basic skills in general laboratory techniques.
  • The individual must have the ability to conduct all aspects of experimental studies involving laboratory animals.
