Position Summary

The Extra Help Program Assistant (Digital Accessibility Associate) supports efforts to make UIC's digital content, websites, and applications accessible to everyone. The ideal candidate has basic knowledge of digital accessibility, strong communication and writing skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with web editing tools and higher education environments.

Duties & Responsibilities
Assisting in Accessibility Consultation Services
  • Support accessibility consultations by gathering information, documenting recommendations, and following up with campus partners.
  • Help respond to inquiries and provide basic guidance on accessibility practices and requirements.
Accessibility Audits of Digital Assets
  • Assist in evaluating websites, documents, and other digital materials for accessibility compliance using established tools and checklists.
  • Record findings, track remediation efforts, and contribute to accessibility reports and documentation.

Maintaining Digital Accessibility Resource Portal
  • Maintain and update content on the digital accessibility resource portal website.
  • Ensure resources reflect current standards, tools, and best practices.
Supporting Training and Coordination
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for accessibility-related training sessions, workshops, and events.
  • Assist with preparing materials, coordinating schedules, and managing communications with presenters and participants.
Promoting and Marketing Accessibility Events
  • Help develop and distribute promotional materials to increase awareness of accessibility initiatives and events.
  • Assist in managing communications across campus channels.

Other Duties as Assigned
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to process improvement efforts.
  • Perform other related duties to support the mission and goals of UIC's digital accessibility services and initiatives.


Minimum Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree.
  2. Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, communications, or a related field.
  • One or more years of professional experience in IT or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in digital accessibility, web content creation, or related areas.
  • Basic knowledge of digital accessibility principles, standards, and best practices.
  • Familiarity with web editing tools, content management systems, and related technologies.
  • Strong analytical skills and a systematic approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Basic analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience promoting and marketing events through various communication platforms and formats.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and customer service orientation.
