  1. Develop and recommend actionable, evidence-based HIV/AIDS targets to guide global efforts from 2025-2030 as part of UNAIDS Target Setting Task Force (10% effort)


Activities:

- Conduct a comprehensive review of current global HIV/AIDS targets and their impacts.

- Engage with UNAIDS and related stakeholders including governments, NGOs, and affected communities to gather insights and recommendations.

- Work with UNAIDS to formulate new targets, focusing on feasibility, sustainability, and inclusivity.

- Prepare and present a detailed report outlining proposed targets and implementation strategies.




  1. Explore and develop innovative AI-driven strategies and tools to enhance HIV prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. (30% effort)


Activities:

- Review existing applications of AI in healthcare, particularly in HIV-related contexts.

- Identify gaps where AI could be beneficial and propose new research or pilot projects, particularly around key populations

- Collaborate with Duke and other AI researchers and developers to design AI solutions.

- Test and evaluate AI models in clinical or community settings.

- Document findings and develop guidelines for integrating AI in HIV health services.




  1. Increase the visibility and influence of Duke Global Health Institute (DGHI) and Chris Beyrer in Washington, D.C., policy circles, focusing on global health and HIV. (30% effort)


Activities:

- Map key policy influencers, organizations, and forums in the DC area relevant to global health and HIV.

- Develop a strategic plan for engagement including speaking opportunities, panel participations, and policy briefings.

- Facilitate connections and meetings between DGHI leaders and policymakers.

- Monitor and report on policy developments to keep DGHI informed and responsive.




  1. Publish impactful scientific papers that highlight findings and advocate for policies in the fields of UNAIDS targets, global health impact, and AI applications in HIV. (30% Effort)



Activities:

- Determine key messages and target journals for publication.

- Assemble teams of co-authors and collaborators for each paper.

- Oversee the research, writing, and peer review process.

- Ensure the dissemination of published papers through conferences, media, and academic networks.
