The Asokan lab (www.asokanlab.org) is affiliated with the Duke Department of Surgery, Molecular Genetics & Microbiology & Biomedical Engineering and is focused on the development and evaluation of novel gene therapy vectors. We are currently seeking to hire a motivated candidate for a Post-Doctoral Associate to assist with in-vivo experimentation and animal husbandry techniques in the lab.A competitive salary and benefits package will be provided according to the Duke University School of Medicine guidelines.

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g. Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.)

  • Detail-oriented, very well organized, and approach laboratory procedures with critical thinking.
  • Strong initiative and eagerness to learn.
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills.
  • Must adhere to strict safety requirements.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively in a dynamic group environment.


Other Requirements:

This position is onsite. The work is performed on-site or at a designated assignment location.

The candidate will work closely with lab members including postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, research technicians, and is expected to independently perform daily activities which include, but may not be limited to:



  • Responsible for the generation and evaluation of AAV capsid panels and CRISPR genome wide knock out and activation screens.
  • Generate viral vector preps packaging different transgene cassettes and carry out experiments involving biodistribution assays in vivo.
  • Carry out data analysis, write manuscripts and participate in experimental design and implementation with the research team.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory documentation of experiments, including raw experimental data and laboratory notebooks.
  • Monitor progress of research projects and coordinate with Principal Investigator and Program team to stay on budget and schedule to meet the milestones and deliverables.
  • Follow standards of responsible conduct in research.
  • Comply with good scholarly and research practice.
  • Adhere to University standards regarding use of isotopes, chemicals, infectious agents, animals, human subjects, and the like.
  • Comply with all applicable University and Department of Surgery policies and procedures.
