The Position
2026 Summer Intern - Biological Research - AI Development Department Summary We seek a highly motivated research intern to join Genentech's Biology Research AI Development (BRAID) team. At BRAID, we develop machine learning methods for various applications in research biology and target discovery. The successful candidate will work closely with a team of machine learning scientists and computational biologists to evaluate and develop foundation models for transcriptomic sequencing data. The work will be focused on causal in-context gene-regulatory network inference, with applications in oncology research. A successful candidate for this role should have practical experience in deep learning, language models, and state-of-the-art Python-based machine learning libraries. Ideal candidates would have a working knowledge of biological sequencing data (especially single-cell data), experience in causal inference, and experience with biological foundation models. Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location ofCalifornia is $50.00 per hour.Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
