Location: Canton, OH Position: Maintenance Mechanic Wage: $39.41 What you will be doing:
- Complies with established job safety practices, policies and procedures as specified in plant and corporate directives for the safe performance of the work assignment.
- Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure work environment. This includes correcting unsafe acts/conditions, participating in monthly safety meetings, performing monthly safety inspections, and investigating accidents, as required.
- Supports and follows guidelines of the food safety system.
- Follows company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), practices and Sonoco's Global Code of Conduct.
- Performs various manual or mechanical production functions by adjusting and repairing the production equipment to meet specifications.
- Inspects job site and equipment to be dismantled, erected or moved, analyzes blueprints and schematics, estimates weight of loads to be handled, lifted, clearances, and recommends support equipment needed.
- Disassembles, overhauls, and rebuilds production equipment.
- Fabricates sheet metal and structural units (guarding, steps, stairs, conveyors, elevators, platforms) as needed. Sets units in place.
- Performs preventative maintenance on production equipment as required and evaluates future maintenance concerns. Ensures equipment/machinery is operationally efficient following maintenance events.
- Performs record keeping duties.
- Communicates important information to management.
- Maintains required hand tools.
- Responsible for routine building maintenance and repair.
- Performs organizational duties including maintaining an organized and clean work area.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Working knowledge of the following areas: heat treatment, welding, brazing, bending, shearing, drilling, and all assigned equipment.
- Ability to use hand and power tools.
- Has an aptitude for mechanics.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

- Capability to work under minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills required.
