Explain and organize complex scientific information in style that is easily understandable to non-scientists and iterate with NOAA until it is scientifically accurate and understandable by the target audience. Produce reports, brochures, web-feature stories, speeches, and audiovisual materials for a variety of audiences that is scientifically accurate and understandable by the target audience and in the requested format or style Provide expert level support to communicate scientific data and information through visual means. Such work includes but is not limited to the design, production, and display of photographs, graphics, data visualizations, videos, physical displays (such as models or live demonstrations), power point slides, and charts for the internet, infographics, pamphlets, exhibits, live or video recorded speeches or lectures Coordinate AOML's web site strategy, providing expert advice on website design and management strategy. Coordinate the transition of the AOML legacy website content to the new AOML website platform. Gather and post variety of stories, videos, infographics and photos to AOML website on a regular basis; monitor social media activity and audience engagement with the AOML website; track public engagement with AOML through digital media and provide weekly metrics and reports to AOML Communications Director. Provide expert advice and recommendations to AOML Communications Director on to increase public engagement with the AOML website Support AOML in planning and facilitating inter-agency and intra-agency working groups and collaborative projects for public engagements, exhibits, events and displays for each instance. Provide expert level support and develop a visual information strategy for AOML emphasizing cross-platform visual and graphical consistency. Develop visual content for display on high-definition video monitors and for reproduction as posters. Provide on scene support as well as communication products for AOML leadership at key conferences and scientific meetings. Continuously acquire knowledge of NOAA's and AOML's activities and services in order to be more effective in executing duties.
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in a related field from an accredited university required Scientific background or previous science communication experience is required 7+ years of experience in the field or in a related area required. Must be US Citizen and able to obtain and maintain government Public Trust clearance. Advanced proficiency using WordPress (designing websites, creating templates, etc.) Candidate needs to have creative vision and an eye for design and a keen eye for layout and design Demonstrated ability to plan strategically Strong writing and editing skills, and experience translating complex scientific information for non-scientific audiences Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work in a high-paced environment and can work both independently or as a team Proficient MS Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, etc.) and G-Suite (Docs, Sheets, etc.) required. Proficient with data visualization tools such as ArcGIS, R, Tableau, Python, and/or others required. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to learn by example, and multitask Familiarity with Google web analytics required
Preferred Experience:
Proficient with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign highly desirable. Basic familiarity with other Adobe Creative Cloud apps strongly preferred Having a basic of knowledge of HTML and CSS strongly preferred Working knowledge of OAR programs, labs, and cooperative institutes is preferred Knowledge of NOAA systems, services, research, and/or programs is preferred Fellowship Experience (for example: Knauss Fellowship or AAAS Science and Technology Fellowship) is preferred

The salary range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Groundswell, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is: $68,352.00 - $123,341.00
