Who We Are

BioMarin is a global biotechnology company that relentlessly pursues bold science to translate genetic discoveries into new medicines that advance the future of human health.

Since our founding in 1997, we have applied our scientific expertise in understanding the underlying causes of genetic conditions to create transformative medicines, using a number of treatment modalities.

Using our unparalleled expertise in genetics and molecular biology, we develop medicines for patients with significant unmet medical need. We enlist the best of the best - people with the right technical expertise and a relentless drive to solve real problems - and create an environment that empowers our teams to pursue bold, innovative science. With this distinctive approach to drug discovery, we've produced a diverse pipeline of commercial, clinical and preclinical candidates that have well-understood biology and provide an opportunity to be first-to-market or offer a substantial benefit over existing therapeutic options.

About Worldwide Research and Development

From research and discovery to post-market clinical development, our WWRD engine involves all bench and clinical research and the associated groups that support those endeavors. Our teams work on developing first-in-class and best-in-class therapeutics that provide meaningful advances to patients who live with genetic diseases.
SUMMARY:
The BioMarin Summer Internship Program will enable students to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the processes and systems within BioMarin, while gaining an insight into the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. Over the course of 10 - 12 weeks our interns gain industry experience while working alongside our talented team on meaningful projects.
The Patient Centered Outcomes Science (PCOS) Team is part of the Global Medial Affairs Integrated Evidence organization at BioMarin. The PCOS team drives end-to-end patient centered evidence generation for BioMarin, including clinical outcomes assessments (COAs) and digital health technology (DHT) assessments.
JOB DESCRIPTION/PROJECT:
Thisinternship is designed for students eager to explore the application of digital health technologies and electronic data capture to support generation of evidence required for regulatory approval, patient access and uptake in biotech. This role will offerhands-on experience in the generation of data from digital health solutions and electronic systems, including the selection, development and interpretation of DHT endpoints and COA data from electronic sources to support rare disease drug development. This position will also provide an opportunity to teach about overarching patient-centered outcomes strategy, including the role of DHT to complementClinical Outcome Assessments (COAs) and biomarker interpretation in interventional and non-interventional studies.
Required Skills:
The following are required skills for this job:
  • Interest in healthcare, digital technology, or health sciences and curiosity about digital health, virtual care, remote monitoring and contribution to healthcare
  • Familiarity with digital tools or platforms (mobile apps, wearable devices, or simple programming-any prior exposure welcome)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong written communication and information synthesis skills, with attention to detail
  • Coursework or self-study in biology, health sciences, informatics, or technology
  • Willingness to learn and contribute in a collaborative environment
Qualifications/Eligibility:
  • Bachelor's degree or rising senior undergraduate in a health, life science, informatics, or technology-related field
  • Must be returning to school in the Fall or have graduated within 1 year ofinternship start

Benefits of a BioMarin Internship:
As aninternsupporting rare disease digital health and electronic data capture initiatives, you will gain valuable hands-on experience and professional skills, including:
  • Exposure to leading-edge digital health toolssuch as mobile apps, wearable sensors, andthe ability to understand the value of other electronic data capture (i.e., electronic clinical outcome assessment (eCOA) platforms) to drive drug development
  • Practical experience in organizing, testing, and tracking digital health tool performance in patient studies.
  • Advanced abilities in literature review and synthesisthrough the analysis of scientific literature, case studies, and technical documentation on digital health trends, regulatory requirements, and patient-centric technologies.
  • Strength in drafting and editing technical documentation, including digital measurement definitions, project materials, and content for regulatory and commercial evidence packages.
  • Development of effective collaboration and communication skillsby participating in cross-functional project meetings and contributing creative ideas to enhance user experience and digital health workflows.
  • Skills in usability testingand evaluation of digital tools and eCOAs
  • Experience in creating and assembling data dashboards, executive summaries, and visual contentfor clear and impactfulinternal and external communication.
