SUMMARY: The BioMarin Summer Internship Program will enable students to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the processes and systems within BioMarin, while gaining an insight into the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. Over the course of 10 - 12 weeks our interns gain industry experience while working alongside our talented team on meaningful projects. The Real Worlds Evidence team is part of Global Medical Affairs and accountable for the planning,design, and interpretationof observational studiestosupport asset development and lifecycle management. The group has strong epidemiological and analytical expertise, they draw on a broad scope of real-world data sources (e.g., natural history, population surveys, disease registries, EMR, claims and prescribing data) or design custom RWE studies to address key evidence needs and inform on appropriate use andlong-termsafety andeffectiveness of BioMarin products. JOB DESCRIPTION/PROJECT: Theinternin the Real World Evidence group will work closely with members of the Real World Evidence team within the Integrated Evidence Function to understand epidemiologic data on potential patient populations, as well as assisting on the communication of research findings from burden of illness studies. Specific responsibilities and projects are expected to include: Perform literature reviews and critically appraise existing epidemiology evidence to improve disease understanding and support understanding potential treatable populations.Work will include synthesis of literature on: incidence, prevalence, natural history disease course, burden of illness, treatment patterns, co-morbidities, co-medications, outcomes measures, phenotypes, biomarkers and unmet need, and their variations across demographics and geographies. Assist with interpretation of study results, creation of data displays, and draft study report(s) to communicate research findings from analyses of disease registries and databases. Required Skills: Self-motivated withthe ability to work independently Ability to balance priorities and handle multiple tasks through careful planning Excellent oral and written communicationskills and ability to communicate scientific evidence to peers Experience conducting reviews of scientific literature Desired Skills: Experience in the epidemiology of rare diseases or genetic epidemiology a benefit, but not required Experience analyzing and interpreting epidemiologic data Qualifications/Eligibility: Studying towards, or recently completed, a Master's degree or PhD in Epidemiology or Public Health with an interest in understanding the role of real world evidence in a pharmaceutical/biotechnology setting. Must be available to work full time, 40 hours a week. Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited U.S. based university or college and enrolled in the fall term after the completion of the internship OR have graduated within 1 year of the start of the program. Must be able to relocate if necessary and work at the designated site for the duration of the internship for on-site, hybrid roles. Some positions will be open to remote interns, but employee must be within United States borders.
