Impact you will make
As Principal Data Systems Consultant, you will serve as the organization's senior expert on the behavior of data across our Insurance Discover platform and related systems. You will provide deep technical and analytical insight into how data flows into, through, and out of the system-from hospital client integrations and clearinghouse transactions to downstream processing, analytics, and internal reporting. You will be a critical advisor to engineering, operations, product, and leadership, ensuring that data systems perform reliably and that business decisions are grounded in accurate, consistent, and actionable information that has a direct correlation to increasing our reportable insurance coverage, and downstream client recoveries and FinThrive revenues.
What you will do
- Maintain deep understanding of transactional data flows, including hospital client integrations, clearinghouse interactions, EDI 270/271 processes, and internal data transformations. Develop and maintain diagnostic approaches, tools, and documentation to streamline issue resolution.
- Serve as the subject-matter expert on data lineage, system behavior, and data quality across the platform.
- Lead investigation and diagnosis of high-impact data anomalies, system and EDI configuration issues. Interpret and troubleshoot complex data scenarios involving multiple upstream and downstream systems to identify root cause problems and solutions related to system performance.
- Lead analysis to identify incremental performance opportunities related to our Insurance Discover platform, and in particular our EDI and found coverage algorithms and configurations.
- Identify opportunities for automation, including maintenance and update process that are candidates for RPA or AI. Partner with engineering and operations to implement process changes, as well as RPA and AI automation solutions. Maintain and measure tangible business impact as a result of key improvement initiatives.
- Analyze trends, performance shifts, and drivers of business outcomes; provide actionable insights to leadership.
- Support the enhancement and maintenance of internal reporting and tracking platforms used across the business.
- Advise leadership, product managers, engineers, analysts, and operations teams on data-driven priorities and improvement opportunities.
- Provide subject-matter expertise for product development, including data requirements, logic validation, and analytics capabilities.
- Communicate complex system and data concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Identify risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities across data flows, processes, and systems.
- Influence decisions related to platform stability, data architecture, product features, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Serve as a single point of accountability for understanding how data behavior affects operational and business results.
What you will bring
- 10+ years of experience in data systems analysis, data operations, business systems analysis, analytics engineering, or related fields.
- Strong SQL Knowledge and Experience
- Strong Experience Healthcare Revenue Cycle Management and healthcare payer reimbursement
- Experience managing in a remote environment.
- Highly analytical and data-driven
- Advanced understanding of transactional systems, data pipelines, integrations, and large-scale data processing.
- Strong SQL proficiency and familiarity with relational databases, ETL/ELT processes, and data modeling concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to perform complex root cause analysis across multi-system environments.
- Proven ability to translate technical findings into clear, actionable insights for operational and business stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
- Expert Experience with healthcare data, EDI 270/271 transactions, or revenue cycle systems.
- Experience with Insurance Discovery Solutions
- Travel required: Minimal (a couple of times a year)
