Job Summary: The Service Support Representative is responsible for providing comprehensive support to the Service Department. This role ensures organizational objectives are met by maintaining the service tool inventory and providing logistical assistance for the loading, unloading, and timely delivery of machine components to various locations and customer sites as required.

The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices daily: 1) Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values; 2) Collaborate with key internal/external resources; 3) Participate in ongoing self-development.

Essential Functions:



  • Identifies, organizes, labels tool room inventory to assure accurate input into computerized database.
  • Maintains tools in branch inventory to assure safe and serviceable condition and availability for use.
  • Processes tools from inventory into work orders and returns them to inventory after use by service technicians.
  • Records tool information into computerized database on an on-going basis.
  • Inspects, cleans, and repairs, (or makes arrangement for the repair of) tools after return from service technicians before returning them to inventory.
  • Analyzes new product introduction information and recommends procurement of tooling needed to support Caterpillar and allied product in the Holt Cat service territory.
  • Reviews tool budget and records to maintain awareness of costs associated with providing tooling while assuring best usage of company financial resources.
  • Instructs service technicians in the safe and proper use of tools, where necessary.
  • Procures and maintains serviceable condition tooling within budgetary guidelines and limits.
  • Drives and operates a Ford F550 and Trailer in a safe and defensive manner at various HOLT CAT locations in HOLT's territory.
  • Maintains a Class A CDL driver's license to operate a vehicle in good standing and meet all state requirements in addition to meeting HOLT CAT safety and health guidelines.
  • Communicates with Project Manager and/or Service Manager daily to give progress updates.
  • Loads, unload, and transport all equipment deliveries and pickups in a positive, caring manner while striving for promptness, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Secures equipment onto truck and ensure that materials meet state and federal guidelines for safe transport and vehicle capabilities.
  • Maintains truck and trailer in accordance with manufactures requirements.
  • Inspects truck and trailer before and after each trip and record any defects of vehicle.
  • Completes DOT required drivers daily log accurately and without misrepresentation.
  • Completes driver's daily post trip inspection report and making recommendations for repair or maintenance, as well as being responsible for the clean appearance of company assigned vehicle.
  • Works safely always and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of tooling, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of safe work procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of State of Texas Driving laws.
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of Ford F550 Truck.
  • Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of truck and trailer to evaluate quality and/or performance.
  • Ability to safely drive Truck in addition to various vehicles.
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
  • The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and knowledge of machine electronic systems.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under fast-paced, time constraining circumstances.
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair.


Education and Experience:



  • Three years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required, five years of experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid Driver's license.
  • Maintains a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and must have an acceptable driving record.


Supervisory Responsibilities:



  • None.


Travel:



  • Up to 60% of driving with some overnight stay.


Physical Requirements:



  • This position involves extended periods in a stationary position and frequently moves about inside and outside.
  • Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
  • Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Ascend/descend with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climb up and down ladders.
  • Be able to safely maneuver and work underneath equipment.
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work.


Work Environment:



  • May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity.
  • Noise level may be loud at times.
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment.
  • Exposure to dust and small particles; applicable PPE must be worn to control exposure.
