Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Division of Comprehensive Oral Health houses several disciplines including, Periodontology, Dental Hygiene, Comprehensive Dentistry, Operative Dentistry/BioMaterials, Prosthodontics, and Endodontics. The Periodontology discipline focuses on the prevention and treatment of gum disease, as well as the management of gum and tissue inflammation resulting from existing dental conditions
Position Summary
Perform duties as a dental assistant in ASOD Periodontology.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and completion of an accredited dental assisting program; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Previous chair-side dental assisting experience is essential. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a wide variety of individuals (including staff, students, graduate residents faculty and patients). The successful candidate must be able to exercise, tact and diplomacy, and be flexible in working in different specialty clinics including Periodontology, Dental Hygiene, Comprehensive Dentistry, Operative Dentistry/Biomaterials, Prosthodontics, Endodontics and Dental Faculty Practice. The Dental Assistant must be customer-service oriented and patient-care driven. The position requires the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, to negotiate to achieve successful results, and to thrive in a fast-paced environment while delivering high-level customer service. The position requires strong professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills. The ability to work with others and change tasks frequently is essential.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience working in a team environment, and providing support with various dental procedures.
