The salary range for this position is $183,100 - 236,400. "Off-scale salaries" and other components of pay, i.e. a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience.

Position description

QUALIFICATIONS:

We seek a veterinarian with advanced training in anatomic pathology. Candidates are expected to have completed a PhD by the start date of the position. Research opportunities for engagement within PMI include, but are not limited to research in microbial pathogenesis, virology, host-microbe interaction, vaccinology, stem cells, immunopathology, AI, and vector-borne, wildlife, and aquatic disease. We are interested in finding a colleague who would integrate well with our department, the clinical trials program, and/or any of the many and varied groups on campus that support translational and comparative medical research (such as the medical school, animal sciences, bioengineering etc.). A successful career at the SVM relies on a demonstrated interest, experience, and competence in the teaching and clinical service missions of the school. All faculty are expected to contribute to teaching with opportunities available in the professional, graduate and/or undergraduate curricula.

Demonstrated competence in diagnostic Anatomic Pathology is required. Board certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) or European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP) at the time of appointment or within 2 years of appointment is required. We have an active team of anatomic pathologists with wide-ranging expertise. Any specific interest that complements or expands our team would be considered. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere, and a commitment to the values reflected in the UC Davis Principles of Community.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Research: The development of an independent, creative and productive basic and/or clinically oriented research program is a fundamental and indispensable requirement of the position, including publication of results in professional/scientific journals. The research program must provide meaningful research opportunities for veterinary students, residents and/or graduate students.

Clinical: This position includes a 35% clinical effort assignment to the Anatomic Pathology Service in the William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. The individual will be responsible for directing, instructing and supervising veterinary students and residents; providing diagnostic service; and advising and consulting with referring veterinarians. This, in part, fulfills the teaching responsibility (described above).

Teaching: Responsibilities for teaching can be filled by participation in one or more curricula by: (1) lectures, discussion sessions or laboratories in the DVM curriculum; (2) clinical teaching in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH); (3) participation in the graduate clinical (resident) training program of the VMTH; and/or (4) participation in the graduate academic (MS and PhD) or undergraduate programs of the campus.

Service: University and public service through committee work, participation in professional

organizations, continuing education and other appropriate means is expected.

If the successful candidate has research interests aligned with the Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) and its mission-oriented research, a split appointment as an Agronomist in the AES is possible.
