Position Highlights The University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson (COM-T) seeks a dynamic, nationally recognized leader to serve as the next Chief of the Division of Trauma, Critical Care, Burn, and Emergency Surgery. Reporting directly to the Chair of the Department of Surgery, the Chief will collaborate with leaders across COM-T and Banner - University Medicine to advance excellence in clinical care, education, and research while positioning the Division for continued growth and innovation.

Based at Banner - University Medical Center Tucson, the only ACS-verified Level I Trauma Center in Southern Arizona, the Division serves as the regional referral center for the comprehensive management of critically ill and injured patients.

The successful candidate will meet the requirements of either a career track or tenure track faculty according to the College and University guidelines.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative leadership congruent with the clinical, educational and research goals of the Trauma Division.
  • Collaborate with Academic Affairs and other educational offices at the College of Medicine to ensure that the division and its faculty are advancing the college's mission of educating residents, fellows, medical students, and graduate students; Maintain liaison with other clinical and/or basic science departments to foster an integrated teaching environment for the College.
  • Encourage and support research creativity and productivity within the division and the Department of Surgery, and throughout the College of Medicine and UA Health Sciences Center.
  • Conduct research appropriate to academic medicine, clinical or basic science.
  • Demonstrate leadership as a clinical role model in all the division's clinical activities; Maintain appropriate standards of care appropriate to the discipline.
  • Provide direct patient care in the inpatient and/or ambulatory (outpatient) setting as a licensed, fully credentialed provider and member of Banner-University Medical Group; Participate in call service rotation.
  • Ensure the fiscal accountability and sustainability of the division, working in concert with the department's Business Office.
  • Provide leadership, oversight and effective management of an active program of independent, extramurally funded basic, translational or clinical research.

Knowledge,
Skills, and Abilities:

  • Evidence of successful program development.
  • Demonstrated track record of distinction in teaching, clinical care, and/or research in an academic clinical department or equivalent environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient care, reflecting a service-oriented, team-based philosophy in collaboration with hospital administration and health professional colleagues from all disciplines, departments and specialties.
  • Successful track record of recruitment and development of faculty, trainees, and students.
  • A record of solid performance as a skilled manager with the ability to grow revenues, meet budgets, measure and improve productivity and outcomes, and develop and implement appropriate business strategies to achieve division, unit department and/or enterprise goals.
Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a Professor or Associate Professor
  • Hold an MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent medical degree.
  • Be eligible for medical licensure in Arizona.
