Position Overview: Ameresco has a new opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer with BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) experience to join our East Region Team in the design, management, and implementation of BESS projects for industrial, commercial, utility, and institutional customers. This is a senior-level position with the ability to work closely with our development, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning team members. Responsibilities:
Lead the technical delivery for utility and C&I scale BESS projects during development, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning. Serve as the primary engineering authority to ensure projects meet schedule, financial, safety, quality, and contractual objectives. Manage external engineering consultants and ensure their deliverables meet project requirements, budget, and schedule. Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering including geotech, civil, structural, electrical, substation, fire protection, and SCADA. Review and approve all engineering deliverables for projects including drawings, studies, specifications, calculations, and reports. Ensure engineering deliverables meet all project objectives, contract terms, applicable codes, AHJ requirements, and utility standards. Manage engineering document transmittals between all project stakeholders. Manage major equipment procurement by developing specifications, reviewing vendor proposals, reviewing vendor drawings, and advising on technical contract terms. Develop utility interconnection designs to meet utility and project requirements. Coordinate with utility throughout project and prepare utility required submittals. Conduct site investigations to assess existing conditions, electrical systems, utility configurations, and site layout to ensure project designs are constructable and optimized for the site. Collaborate with project developers to develop the basis of design and establish customer expectations. Support construction project managers by resolving field engineering issues, reviewing RFIs, reviewing submittals, performing site visits, and verifying projects are built per design. Support commissioning team by providing technical guidance and coordinating with utility during commissioning and utility testing. Collaborate with O&M team to ensure projects are constructed for safe operation and ease of maintenance throughout project life. Foster effective and positive business relationships with all parties. Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
BS in Electrical Engineering preferred but other related engineering disciplines acceptable. Minimum of 5 years of experience is required in either power engineering or renewable energy. BESS project engineering and construction work experience focused on design, engineering, construction, and commissioning. Working knowledge of BESS systems, electrical engineering, construction, safety, industry standards, IEEE, NFPA 855, and NEC. Proficiency in Procore, Microsoft Office, and AutoCAD.
Additional Qualifications:
- Professional Engineer license (Electrical) is strongly preferred but not a requirement.
- Familiarity with NERC and FERC requirements for utility scale projects is a plus.
- Familiarity and ability to learn relay setting programs such as SEL AcSELerator is a plus.
- Familiarity and ability to learn industry accepted power studies software such as Aspen, ETAP, Easy Power, PSCAD, etc is a plus.
- Excellent verbal, written, computer, and technical communication and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal and team communication skills.
- Valid driver's license issued by state of residence and in good standing.
- Occasional travel required to project sites (up to 25%).
