Position Summary
The UNC Department of Pediatrics Division of Hematology-Oncology is recruiting a highly motivated and organized individual with a strong background in clinical research operations to provide high-level direction of new and existing research projects. This role will oversee the daily operations of clinical trials, ensuring they are conducted efficiently, ethically, and in compliance with regulations. This also includes oversight of a team of clinical research staff, overseeing project timelines and budgets, and contributing to strategic planning for clinical trial execution. The role will work closely with investigators, sponsors, research coordinators, and institutional partners to enhance research operations and facilitate high-quality clinical and academic research.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Experience: 5-7 years, including direct experience as a Clinical Research Coordinator in therapeutic clinical trials research, and within that 5-7 years
  • Significant knowledge and experience conducting therapeutic clinical trials within an academic research setting
  • Knowledge and experience of regulatory and IRB compliance policies including applying Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and research federal regulations
  • Strong Leadership skills and Knowledge and experience with team development and supervision of staff
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to simultaneously track multiple projects
  • Highly detail oriented and ability to work independently as well as the ability to work simultaneously on several activities and handle multiple demands with efficiency and professionalism
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work with and build relationships with diverse audiences (e.g., industry and government funding representatives, research PIs, study subjects, regulatory personnel, clinical and administrative staff) and ability to communicate complicated issues effectively
  • Ability to manage budgets and financial planning, including oversight and development and management of financial budgets and reporting as it relates to projects, including budget reconciliation and payment authorization; oversee accrual revenue, forecasting, revenue capture, accounts receivables, and accounts payable; and ensure financial accountability and efficient resource allocation
  • Proficient in software and technology used to support research operations (MS Office, Florence, Epic EMR)

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • 1 or more years as research site operations lead
  • Research Certification in SOCRA, ACRP, or CHRC
