This Special Education Advisor position with the Bureau of Special Education, Division of Monitoring and Improvement serves counties in the Central Division region, specifically Intermediate Units 9 (Cameron, Elk, McKean and Potter counties) and Intermediate Unit 10 (Center, Clearfield and Clinton counties), and supports them in providing our state's students with a thorough and efficient education system. If you are well read on federal and state special education law, policy, procedures and guidelines; have a passion for supporting schools in providing services to students with disabilities; and have strong analytical and writing skills, this position is for you!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this important role, you will conduct monitoring visits, prepare monitoring reports, negotiate, approve, and verify Corrective Action Plans (CAPs). Work involves following up on inquiries submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) Bureau of Special Education (BSE) resource account management system. You can expect to review and approve or disapprove special education plans and Special Education Plans Review Notifications (SEPRNs). This position will require follow up on Restraint Reports and provide technical assistance when needed. Additional duties to include but not limited to:
- Investigating and following up on complaints including the development of Complaint Investigation Reports (CIRs) within established timelines
- Utilizing Commonwealth and PDE issued technology effectively
- Staying up to date with federal and state laws
- Traveling as required
- Communicating effectively in writing and verbally
- Presenting at training sessions and conferences as required

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Five years of professional experience in special education including two years as an administrator of a special education program; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training, which includes two years as an administrator of a special education program.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
