The University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson and Banner University Medical Center seek an accomplished academic surgeon to serve as Division Chief of Abdominal Transplant Surgery. This leadership role will oversee the strategic growth, clinical excellence, academic advancement, and research innovation of a comprehensive multiorgan transplant program, encompassing liver, kidney, pancreas, and living donor transplantation. The Division Chief will lead a team of surgeons, transplant physicians, anesthesiologists, and allied professionals to advance the tripartite mission of the College of Medicine:

| Duties & Responsibilities |
Clinical Leadership
- Provide strategic direction and oversight for all adult and pediatric solid organ transplant services (liver, kidney, pancreas, and living donor).
- Ensure compliance with CMS, UNOS, and OPTN regulatory standards and quality metrics.
- Establish and maintain high-quality, efficient, and ethical standards of care.
- Direct clinical operations in collaboration with hospital and health system leadership, ensuring patient safety, quality outcomes, and fiscal stewardship.
- Develop and implement innovative programs, such as:
- Living donor and robotic liver transplantation.
- Machine perfusion and organ utilization initiatives.
- Rapid access and expedited transplant evaluation pathways.
- Integration of bioethics and data-driven decision-making in clinical protocols.
Research and Innovation
- Foster a robust research environment in transplantation, machine learning, and bioethics.
- Lead or collaborate on funded research projects including NIH, DOD, and industry grants.
- Advance interdisciplinary collaboration across AI, radiology, data science, and ethics.
- Promote participation in national and international clinical trials and data registries.
- Support faculty development in scholarly activity and grant acquisition.
Education and Mentorship
- Cultivate an academic culture that values teaching, ethical reflection, and professional growth.
- Mentor surgical residents, fellows, and junior faculty in transplantation and academic leadership.
- Support interdisciplinary education for nurses, allied health professionals, and students.
- Advance bioethics and health policy education across the College of Medicine.
Administrative and Strategic Leadership
- Collaborate closely with Department and Hospital leadership to grow transplant volume and regional footprint.
- Build multidisciplinary partnerships with transplant hepatology, nephrology, interventional radiology, critical care, and anesthesia.
- Drive recruitment and retention of top surgical and clinical talent.
- Champion diversity, professionalism, and psychological safety within the transplant team.
- Represent the University of Arizona in regional and national transplant networks

| Minimum Qualifications |
- MD or MD/PhD (or equivalent) with
board certification in General Surgery and fellowship training in Abdominal Transplantation. - Eligibility for medical licensure
in the State of Arizona. - National recognition as a
transplant surgeon with demonstrated excellence in clinical outcomes and program growth. - Proven record of academic
achievement, including peer-reviewed publications and grant funding. - Demonstrated leadership
experience in a complex academic or clinical enterprise. - Be at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor

| Preferred Qualifications |
- Expertise in living donor liver transplantation, pediatric transplantation, and robotic hepatobiliary surgery.
- Experience with machine learning applications in transplantation or related translational research.
- Advanced degree or formal training in Bioethics or Health Policy.
- Active participation or leadership in national transplant societies (ASTS, AASLD, UNOS, ILTS).
- Strong record of collaboration and mentoring in multidisciplinary environments.
