SEBRING INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY

This race track located in Sebring, Florida, is America's oldest road racing track, with over six decades of storied history. It hosts the historic Twelve Hours of Sebring each year on the third Saturday of March on the 3.74-mile road course. The Twelve Hours of Sebring is one of the four endurance races on the IMSA schedule.

Summary

The Director of Operations is a key member of the Sebring International Raceway leadership team, responsible for overseeing all day-to-day operational functions that ensure the safe, efficient, and professional execution of events, facility operations, and guest experience across the property. This role provides strategic direction, leadership, and hands-on management of track operations, event services, safety and rescue, maintenance coordination, and operational planning for major events including the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, club-level rentals, Sanctioned events, and community engagements.
The Director of Operations is expected to demonstrate exceptional decision-making, operational discipline, communication, and team development. Serving as a collaborative partner across all departments while upholding the highest standards of safety, customer service, and operational excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Operational Leadership & Planning

  • Lead the planning, execution, and oversight of all track operations, major event operations, and daily facility activities.
  • Develop, refine, and execute comprehensive operational plans, schedules, and standard operating procedures for all Sebring events.
  • Provide leadership during large-scale events, coordinating with sanctioning bodies (IMSA, SRO, HSR, SVRA, SCCA, etc.), local authorities, and internal departments.
  • Oversee pit lane, paddock, track safety, emergency response, and guest-facing operational areas.

Safety, Emergency Response & Compliance

  • Ensure all safety, rescue, and emergency response protocols meet or exceed industry standards.
  • Direct training, certification, and readiness of safety crews, track marshals, and operational personnel.
  • Partner with Local AHJ, Sheriff's dept, Fire Rescue, Homeland Security, FBI, FDLE and on-site medical teams to coordinate response plans.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory agencies, insurance requirements, and safety audits.

Facility Operations & Maintenance Coordination

  • Work closely with the Director of Facilities & Maintenance to align operational needs with facility capabilities, including track surface, lighting, infrastructure, utilities, and equipment condition.
  • Identify operational deficiencies and propose improvements or capital requests to enhance event quality and guest experience.
  • Support project management for upgrades (e.g., debris fencing, retaining walls, timing loops, pedestrian bridges, hospitality structures).
  • Work Closely with Director of Facilities & Maintenance to Oversee daily maintenance & facility upgrades, repairs and grounds needs.

Event Operations & Guest Experience

  • Oversee operational components of hospitality areas, spectator zones, ticketed experiences, and paddock flow.
  • Ensure ADA policies, transportation (trams/golf carts), signage, and crowd-flow systems are implemented and well managed.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Events, and Guest Services to elevate the overall customer experience and brand reputation.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Resource Management

  • Assist in preparing annual operational budgets, staffing forecasts, equipment needs, and capital improvement requests.
  • Manage operational spending, track necessary metrics, and work with Finance to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Oversee procurement and inventory of safety equipment, radios, vehicles, and operational assets.

Team Leadership & Staff Development

  • Direct, train, and develop full-time and part-time operational staff, including supervisors, corner workers, track safety, and event contractors.
  • Foster a culture of communication, accountability, high performance, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead operational briefings, debriefs, and post-event analysis to drive refinement year over year.

Stakeholder & Partner Relations

  • Serve as a primary liaison with sanctioning bodies, car clubs, vendors, and community partners.
  • Support long-term strategic initiatives such as the Sebring 75th Anniversary programs, community outreach, and cross-organizational collaborations.
  • Represent Sebring in professional settings with external partners, demonstrating the highest level of professionalism and operational insight.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in motorsports operations, track operations, event management, facility operations, or related fields.
  • Strong leadership background with proven staff management and team-building capabilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety protocols, emergency response, racing formats, and motorsports operational standards.
  • Experience working with sanctioning bodies (IMSA, FIA, SVRA, HSR, SCCA, NASA, etc.).
  • Excellent communication, logistical planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours, including weekends and holidays during event season.
  • Valid driver's license; ability to operate track vehicles and safety equipment.
  • Experience with capital projects, facility upgrades, and operational budgeting.
  • Familiarity with incident command systems, fire/rescue operations, or emergency medical coordination.
  • Background in automotive, racing, or venue management industries.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand, walk, and operate vehicles for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to respond quickly to incidents or emergencies when required.
