Reporting to the Director of Audiovisual Design and Collaboration Spaces, the Manager of Audiovisual Design and Engineering leads the AV engineering team, overseeing the execution of complex AV projects and managing Tier 3 engineering support. As a key partner to the Director, this role translates departmental strategy into operational plans and contributes to the development of university-wide AV design standards. You will be responsible for driving innovation, managing the team's day-to-day performance, professional development, project assignments, collaborating with stakeholders and overseeing vendors to ensure project success and the operational integrity of collaboration systems across all campuses.
Job Duties will include:
- Develop and lead a team of AV engineers, managing the full performance cycle, guiding professional growth, and making hiring recommendations to build team capability.
- Provide strategic design consultation to university stakeholders, tailoring solutions to meet academic and operational needs, and serve as the technical authority for the review and approval of all internal and third-party AV system designs ensuring they meet university standards, operational requirements, and project goals.
- Manage the end-to-end vendor engagement process for AV projects, from developing the scope of work (SOW) and evaluating the accuracy of proposals to managing performance and final acceptance. Ensures all projects meet design specifications, budget, and enterprise operational requirements and Documents of Record are received and managed in accordance with GWU standards.
- Support the Director of Audiovisual Design and Collaboration Spaces in the development and maintenance of university AV design standards translating departmental strategy into actionable best practices for the team.
- Lead the ongoing optimization and enterprise management of GW's AV systems, leveraging enterprise management tools and performance metrics to ensure system integrity, inform problem management, proactively resolve issues, and drive continuous improvement in service delivery.
- Guide team research and development initiatives to evaluate emerging technologies
- Oversee the team's Tier 3 engineering support function, ensuring timely resolution of complex technical issues and fostering a seamless escalation process with support partners throughout the department.
- Maintain classroom datasets and establish performance metrics to support planning, decision-making, and continuous improvement
- Lead the campus AV lifecycle planning process, providing recommendations to the Director for technology upgrades and capital investments.

| Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 4 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

| Preferred Qualifications: |
- Proven ability to lead an engineering team and oversee complex project portfolios
- Certifications in AVIXA CTS (I or D a plus), Crestron, Extron, Biamp or AMX ecosystems.
- Familiarity with Zoom Workplace and the administration of Zoom Rooms
- Able to generate project documentation including schematic drawings, budget documents and scope of work documents
- Experience providing functional team leadership and staff development
- Experience managing vendors to successful completion of project scope
- Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and customer service skills
- Experience providing professional development opportunities to staff.
- Creative problem solving and consistent time management skills. Experience with project management, project engineering, and program management
- Experience influencing senior level management and key stakeholders
