Job Summary

This position assumes full responsibility for the Department of Radiology's comprehensive quality, safety, and performance program. This Quality Assurance (QA) position works closely with the Radiology Quality and Safety Committee as it relates to safety, quality of care, and clinical processes. The Radiology QA position provides analysis, integration and coordination of internal and external quality data and regularly performs data and process quality audits to ensure improvements in error prevention and Radiology operations.

Duties include developing, monitoring, and evaluating quality management reports and metrics; performing statics and analysis of data; write and revise SOP's; regularly creating and distributing data reports to department and hospital quality committees; and accreditation requirement compliance. The QA is also responsible for review, investigation and timely resolution of Radiology errors and incident reporting, ensuring documentation of errors and resolution outcomes in the hospital incident reporting system.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or other healthcare profession, or a combination of comparable clinical education and /or experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct work experience in Radiology.
  • Experience working in a quality assurance position in a Radiology Department.
  • Thorough knowledge of QA/QI standards, clinical chart review and abstraction, and regulatory requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of QA/QI models, measurement tools, and techniques, including collection, aggregation, abstraction, validation, analysis, and reporting of data.
  • Detail oriented, with proven ability to effectively manage time, see projects through to completion, organize competing priorities, and effectively address complex, urgent issues as they arise.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities, to quickly assess complex problems, and to develop and implement timely and effective solutions.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to work with complex information, determine impact, identify risks, evaluate approaches; and develop solutions within the context of priorities, time constraints, and available resources.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating effectively with a broad range of clinical and technical staff and representatives of external regulatory agencies and for mentoring lower-level QA/QI staff.
  • Strong skills required to effectively convey complex clinical and technical information both verbally and in writing and to produce high quality reports and documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of various administrative and business software packages, and of the specialized applications for quality data management.
  • Strong skills to influence staff, management, and clinicians at all levels and across departments.
  • Knowledge and ability to provide guidance on quality indicators or metrics, describing how they relate to patient care and safety.
  • Ability to perform statistics and analysis of data including interpretation and correlation.
  • Ability to prepare reports using applicable software applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio), and to present reports to various departmental and hospital committees.
  • Possess technical knowledge of Radiology exams and processes.
  • Knowledge of state, federal, hospital and departmental regulations and requirements.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to Radiology.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance, quality system essentials, quality improvement, benchmarking, metrics, data analysis, and audit processes.
  • Ability to collect data and synthesize information from a variety of sources; Radiant (RIS), EPIC EMR, RL Solutions, and other programs as necessary.
  • Full understanding of the Radiology Quality Map and how each step impacts the patient, recognizing that at each point there is opportunity to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Knowledge to assess and recommend changes to maintain compliance with federal and state requirements and internal policies.
  • Political acumen and collegial communication skills to interact with persons at all levels of the hierarchy with varying backgrounds, levels of expertise, interest, and personal investment.
  • Experience using a range of organizational and time management skills to coordinate and prioritize a diverse, complex workload and to meet competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment with high attention to detail.
  • Active listening skills, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Speaking skills to convey information effectively.

  • Ability to independently conduct research, perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of diverse information and prepare analysis and reports in logical format.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ARRT/ASRT/CNMT Certification as a Radiologic Technologist, Ultrasound Technologist, Nuclear Medicine Technologist or possess sufficient demonstrated knowledge of these disciplines.

The Department of Radiology is a 24-hour, seven day a week operation providing imaging services to adult and pediatric inpatient and outpatients.
