The Metallurgist will review and interpret customer drawings, specifications, procedures and other related documents and establish procedures, control and monitor processes, test and appraise material, conduct studies and evaluations, maintain records, and perform other such duties required to assure conformance to customer requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Conduct metallurgical evaluations and prepare reports on raw material and product to assist in problem solving or obtaining process approvals.
- Participate in contract review to ensure metallurgical compliance with customer blueprints, specifications and other technical documents.
- Maintain systems and record to assure raw materials and products are tested and conform to all customer requirements.
- Maintain systems and records to assure pyrometry equipment are received and maintain process traceability throughout the process.
- Compile information, coordinate testing, and issue reports to obtain customer (ESA) approval for manufacturing processes.
- Provide purchasing with the necessary information to ensure materials are ordered in conformance with all applicable specifications.
- Perform internal and external audits as required to assure compliance with customer and Pursuit Aerospace requirements.
- Provide advice and counsel to other departments in regard to dimensional, metallurgical, material, heating and other technical subjects.
- Work with customer as supplier representatives to ensure applicable requirements are satisfied.
- Maintain conformance and lead Nadcap Audits for MMM (Metallic Materials Manufacturing) and Heat Treat.
- Maintain Pyrometry calibration software (C3) to approved TUS (Test Uniformity Surveys) and SAT(System Accuracy Tests)
- Support Quality Manager with QMS actives as needed.
- Demonstrate a sense of urgency and willingness to work with changing demands of a manufacturing environment.
- Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree in engineering, material science, metallurgy or other technical area is required. Knowledge of metallurgy, chemistry, and statistical process control.
Special Skills:
- Apply metallurgical science to assure compliance with customer requirements.
- Must be detail oriented and organized with good communication skills to interface with all members of the organization as well as customer representatives.
- Computer skills required.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- A detailed understanding of all quality policies and procedures.
Language Skills:
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before employees in the organization.
