Job Description

As Mizzou Engineering embarks on the next phase of its strategic plan, we're reimagining how we support and inspire our students. The Director of Academic Advising will be at the forefront of this transformation, leading a talented advising team, fostering data-informed student success, and helping shape the future of engineering education at Mizzou.

To realize this vision, the College seeks a Director of Academic Advising who combines strategic insight with hands-on leadership. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education and Student Success, the Director will collaborate with the College of Engineering Recruitment and Career Services and academic departments to align advising practices with the College's goals for student success, retention, and inclusive excellence.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Direction and leadership on policy, procedures and initiatives aimed at guiding students to achieve their educational and career goals by helping them plan their course of study, navigate university policies, develop study skills, and connect with campus resources.
  • Use of data in decision making. This includes identification of relevant academic data as well as analysis, proactive decision making and communication of data needed by stakeholders.
  • Management of daily operations of the academic advising office, including hiring, training, supervising and evaluating office staff. The advising staff currently includes 3 Senior Advisors, 6 Advisors and a Course Scheduler.
  • Leadership of Summer Welcome, Winter Orientation, scholarship applications and award processes, undergraduate research fellowship award processes, academic actions and appeals, course scheduling, graduation and commencement.
  • Collaboration with the campus office of International Programs, staff, and faculty to facilitate study abroad programs for engineering students.
  • Advising of undeclared engineering students and special populations.
  • Evaluating applications for readmission and transfer students.
  • Representation of Engineering on campus wide committees such as Academic Advising Leadership Council.
  • Development and implementation of retention programming to increase the retention rate for Engineering students.
  • Work closely with faculty and faculty committees on development of policies and programs for undergraduate students.
  • Administration of MU Connect for the College of Engineering. Meet monthly with other admins, weekly updates from central MU Connect office and offer general assistance to those using the tools.
Shift

Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with occasional evening and/or weekends

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

6 years' experience in advising, counseling, admissions or student services is required.
Master's degree in education with a focus on Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or related field.
Prior supervision experience is preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $69,097.60 - $95,000 per hour
Grade: GGS-012
