Annual Salary: $90,000 - $110,000

Position

The Innovation and Development Engineer II will be responsible for supporting individual material and process development projects related to developing new composite products for various aerospace applications, encompassing conceptual design, process technology development, and validation testing in customer applications. The Development Engineer II applies research and advanced analytical methods, along with appropriate testing and proficient engineering or scientific experience, to solve complex technical problems, develop or evaluate new products and technologies, and improve the reliability of existing products in production.

Innovation and Development Engineer II will:

  • Participate in project teams as assigned to design, model, analyze, fabricate new product designs prototypes in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Evaluate composite materials manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials.
  • Investigate engineering considerations, perform advanced analysis, and make appropriate conclusions and recommendations to meet business objectives and customer needs.
  • Plan and conduct designed experiments to define optimal material process. Perform statistical analysis of the results. Provide reports to the team and management.
  • Supports pilot-scale production of new composite products and components and documents the process via standards and or work instructions.
  • Work closely with and guide technicians through the process development, prototype fabrication, testing, and documentation.
  • Apply continuous learning to stay abreast of composite technology trends. Share new knowledge with peers.
  • Evaluate and adopt the latest in new methods, materials, and other technologies and research when applicable.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in assigned products and technical specialties, engineering tools, and analysis methods.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in material process development with emphasis on manufacturing scale-up to enable launch of commercially successful products.
  • Ability to coach lower-level technical personnel.
  • 2-5 years of experience with thermoset and thermoplastics composites is required.
  • Experience with multiple material systems is required.
  • Strong scientific and mathematical analytical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of GD&T dimensioning and inspection methods.
  • Exceptional organization, time management, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in the leader capacity for a small team capacity, including the remote team members, to deliver and communicate results on assigned projects.
  • Understanding of the many various types of composites technology, knowledge of more than one material systems.
  • Experience with FEA analysis (structural or thermal) using FEMAP, Nastran, Abaqus, Hyperworks.
  • Background in mechanical testing and NDI.
  • Understanding of the application of a broader set of composite materials, their properties, temperature capability, and manufacturing and use limitations.
  • Knowledge and experience with the application of statistical tools and LEAN.

Preferred Experience:

Master of Science in Materials, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 1-2 years' experience or Bachelor of Science with 3-5 years of relevant experience.

Computer Skills:

Proficiency in complex mold design and analysis using SolidWorks.

Must have experience using SolidWorks Simulation Packages or similar programs.

Knowledge of topology optimization for geometry modification is preferred.

Experience in CATIA software is preferred.

Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills.

Pay

SEKISUI Aerospace is required by Washington law to include the salary range for this role when hiring a Washington resident. Pay ranges may be higher or lower for non-resident WA employees, based on the market data for their region, allowing us to pay employees competitively in different geographic markets.
