Summary

Under the supervision of the Production Manager, the Trim Fabricator is responsible for planning steps, sequences, layout per instructions and cutting product to required dimensions. This includes both standard and custom-made products and parts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.



  1. Set up saw including: selecting blade, mounting blade, setting table stop and auto return positions, and mounting proper cutting block.
  2. Operate saw including controlling speed, maintaining coolant flow and changing blades as necessary.
  3. Maintain saw blade inventory with outside vendors.
  4. Check first runs and subsequent pieces to ensure product meets company and customer expectations.
  5. Design and create fixtures as needed.
  6. Follow instructions, select tooling, set up and operate equipment.
  7. Create and maintain detailed job instructions.
  8. Check first runs and subsequent pieces to ensure product meets company and customer specifications.
  9. Layout and measure per inspection report or quality criteria.
  10. Provide quality feedback to appropriate personnel when necessary.
  11. Diagnose and remedy operating problems, notifying appropriate personnel when necessary.
  12. Maintain machines per preventive maintenance manuals.
  13. Maintain an organized work environment based on 5-S principles; Sort, Scrub, Standardize, Set in Order and Sustain.
  14. Maintain a safe working environment.
  15. Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience



  1. Level of education usually acquired through completion of high school. Ability to add, subtract and multiply fractions.
  2. Entry level MIG experience helpful


Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  1. Ability to accurately scan labor, check labor and provide for corrections.
  2. Ability to read a write English, follow verbal and written instructions and use basic math, including, adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions.
  3. Ability to measure (using ruler, tapes, height gauge, micrometer) and count accurately.
  4. Ability to read detailed blueprints.
  5. Ability to identify material sizes, lengths, dimensions, metal type, etc., usually acquired through 9-12 months of experience.
  6. Ability to work independently and prioritize work with minimum supervision.

The employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. The Trim Fabricator must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 70 pounds on an occasional basis.
