Wages and Benefits

$95,000 - $100,000 annual salary range; Paid vacation time, sick time, plus ten paid holidays and two floating holidays; competitive health, dental, and vision insurance; health savings account (HSA), and options for flexible spending accounts (FSA). There is employer paid basic life insurance with the option for additional coverage paid by the employee. The employer pays for Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) and short and long-term disability insurance. SG sponsors a retirement plan with automatic enrollment at 3% and a 3% employer match after one year of service, plus immediate vesting.

A Typical Day in the Life...

A typical day as Solid Ground's Director of Finance provides an opportunity to deliver high level, strategic financial information, and analysis. This position provides direction and leadership for all financial management including accounting, budgeting, and financial compliance. Responsibilities will include the following:



  • Being responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the organization's accounting functions, processes, and procedures.
  • Preparing monthly financial statements and budgets while keeping leadership informed of Solid Ground's financial status.
  • Creating financial reports and analyses that serve as decision-making tools for the Executive Director, leadership team, and board of directors regarding the organization's financial health, cash flow, and liquidity.
  • Providing monthly financial analyses to the board of directors and supporting the Finance Committee with updates on financial health, investment decisions, and audits.
  • Overseeing the accurate processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, invoices, employee expense reports, and participant (client) expenses.
  • Overseeing and preparing monthly government reimbursement financial reports.
  • Leading audit preparations and managing the ongoing relationship with auditors to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Managing and tracking the performance of invested assets in alignment with Solid Ground's financial policies and investment guidelines.
  • Managing all accounts and reporting systems while ensuring compliance with GAAP standards and OMB regulatory requirements.
  • Overseeing the preparation and filing of annual Form 990, tax returns, and other nonprofit regulatory requirements.
  • Leading the development of annual operating budgets in collaboration with the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Ensuring financial contract compliance by managing and completing all financial, project/program, and contract accounting, ensuring expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout each funding period.
  • Completing budget drafts and analyses for a wide range of proposals and contracts.
  • Managing relationships with the organization's financial institutions and investment firm.
  • Overseeing and leading the financial management of the current capital campaign (fiscal years 2024-2027).
  • Overseeing and coordinating with contracted property management in the asset management of the East Metro Place property.
  • Reviewing and analyzing agency contracts and leases for fiscal implications in coordination with leadership staff.
  • Working closely with the Director of Advancement to ensure donor funds are being allocated appropriately.



    Who You Are



    • You hold a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
    • You preferably hold an MBA or equivalent advanced degree.
    • You have a minimum of five to seven years of accounting and finance management experience in a non-profit organization.
    • You demonstrate knowledge and experience in not-for-profit accounting standards and generally accepted accounting practices, including grants management and government contract administration.
    • You possess strong analytical and financial analysis skills.
    • You have knowledge and experience in managing and monitoring financial investments.
    • You have the ability to build strong relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization, including the board of directors.
    • You work effectively with a variety of cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives and demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within all aspects of the organization.
    • You are proficient in accounting software programs and Microsoft Office applications.
    • You are a well-organized, self-directed individual who upholds high personal standards of excellence both independently and as part of a team.
    • You demonstrate personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a strong commitment to the mission of Solid Ground.
    • You communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with audiences ranging from new staff to board leaders to external funders and stakeholders.
    • You work efficiently and accurately while managing multiple deadlines with strong attention to detail.
    • You apply an analytical approach to improving efficiencies and monitoring projects.
    • You have the ability to translate complex financial and operational information into clear, actionable insights for multiple users.
    • You ideally hold a CPA or CMA designation (an inactive CPA designation is acceptable).
    • You have a valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet Solid Ground's driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
