Responsibilities

Hours: 8am-4:30pm (Monday-Friday)

Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a 108 bed intensive and highly structured residential treatment for psychiatric and behavioral health needs of adolescent males and females ages 11-18yrs. Newport News has an on-site certified school, therapists, and vocational programming. Newport News, VA is a beautiful seaside city, rich in maritime history and conveniently located to DC and other major North Eastern cities.

Position Summary:

Assists the CFO with oversight of the revenue cycle in the Business Office. Provides direction over the operational and personnel activities needed to efficiently manage the billing and collection functions of the department. Maintains good interdepartmental communications within the facility.

Job Duties:

  • Plans, directs and coordinates the operational, personnel and financial activities of the business office staff (Accounts Receivable Clerk) with a primary emphasis on the control of accounts receivable (including patient account maintenance, billing and collection management).

  • Directs patient and insurance billing methods to ensure efficiency and correctness in the preparation of patient accounts. Responsible for oversight of billing Acute, PHP and entering school charges at the facility.
  • Performs, verifies, or supervises all insurance verification/financial assessments on all admissions/registrations and completes or updates the appropriate insurance changes to a patient's account.
  • Serves as liaison to Medicaid and other third-party payors, as well as the Nashville Regional Office (NRO) on billing updates and issues.
  • Acts as a liaison between Utilization Management (UM), Health Information Management (HIM), and the Business Office billing staff to ensure billing is both complete and accurate and works to identify and resolve issues as needed.
  • Defines and prioritizes account follow-up activity on problematic accounts.

  • Reviews collection reports, taking corrective actions as necessary.
  • Maintains the facility petty cash fund with an adequate amount to meet facility needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned/required by this position.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of the healthcare revenue cycle
  • Accounts receivable knowledge
  • Medicaid and commercial payor reimbursement knowledge
  • Accounts payable knowledge
  • Financial reporting knowledge

Educational Requirements:

Associates degree required. Bachelors degree preferred.
