The Associate Director of Advanced Controls is responsible for leading the design, development, implementation, and execution of advanced controls and automation strategies across the organization. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this leadership role ensures alignment with broader engineering objectives and organizational strategy while maintaining focus on safety, operational excellence, and innovation. A key focus of this position is mentoring technical teams on utilizing the proper grade of automation to achieve operational goals without overdesigning or under engineering solutions. What we offer you! * Competitive compensation * Comprehensive benefits plan (medical, dental, vision and more) * 401(k) retirement savings plan * Paid time off (vacation, holidays, PTO) * Employee discount programs * Career growth opportunities * Additional compensation may vary depending on the position and organizational level What you will be doing: Leadership and Strategy * Provide strategic direction for advanced controls and automation portfolio to support operational excellence and efficiency across the organization. * Act as a subject matter expert and mentor for Controls Engineers and technical teams, guiding them on selecting and implementing the appropriate grade of automation tailored to business, process, and project requirements. * Cultivate a culture of right-sizing automation designs, ensuring solutions align with operational needs, future system scalability, and cost-effectiveness. * Drive cross-functional collaboration and alignment among engineering design, operations, and project teams. * Champion the Linde Safety Culture, ensuring safety is foundational to all decisions, designs, and project execution activities. Technical Execution and Governance * Oversee and govern the execution of advanced controls and automation projects, including system design, integration, configuration, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting. * Drive compliance with internal engineering and IT standards, regulatory requirements, and operational best practices for advanced control systems. * Ensure control systems are properly scaled to operational needs, avoiding costly overdesign or performance-limiting under design. * Perform cost evaluations, risk assessments, and performance analysis for automation solutions and instrumentation projects to ensure value delivery. * Support the development and execution of control strategies to optimize plant safety, environmental compliance, and productivity. Innovation and Continuous Improvement * Lead efforts to identify opportunities for integrating innovative technologies, such as automation software, machine learning, predictive maintenance tools, and advanced data analytics systems. * Optimize automation processes and plant operations to improve safety, quality, productivity, and reliability while ensuring appropriate complexity of solutions. * Facilitate knowledge transfer through training programs, workshops, and mentorship, helping controls personnel develop expertise in deploying practical and balanced automation solutions. Operations and Risk Management Support * Provide advanced troubleshooting support for operational issues impacting controls and automation systems, collaborating with operations teams to drive resolution. * Direct efforts to resolve product quality, reliability, and operability concerns through process control strategies. * Participate actively in equipment/system risk assessments, including SIL reviews and industry-specific safeguard evaluations, ensuring designs mitigate risk appropriately.
