Summary Description:

In this role, the coordinator will order all supplies needed for undergraduate teaching laboratories, assist with ordering research supplies for the graduate and undergraduate research program, aliquoting common research reagents, maintaining safety data sheets for reagents purchased, assist with budget management, overseeing student laboratory workers and graduate assistants assigned to research labs, assist with the maintenance and purchase of laboratory equipment, assist with cell line maintenance for undergraduate research, assist with summer research applications, selections, and overseeing summer research students.

Specific Duties:



  1. Administer and coordinate the technical activities and infrastructure related to the operation of the Biology research and teaching labs, Including:

    1. Ordering, receiving, and documenting the location of research supplies
    2. Preparing reagents, buffers, and stock solutions
    3. Maintaining specialized research equipment in compliance with federal guidelines.
    4. Maintaining quality checks on safety of laboratories, including biohazards, and insure maintenance and cleanliness of the facilities according to good laboratory practices.
    5. Assist in formulating and implementing the short and long range goals for the operation of the laboratories; set priorities, assign responsibilities, and establish timetables. Project future needs and formulate strategies consistent with projections.
    6. Assist in the determination of fiscal requirements and in the preparation of budgetary recommendations.
    7. Help maintain cell lines and ensure liquid nitrogen is filled regularly in dewar
    8. Evaluate, prioritize, and recommend new capitol equipment purchases.


  2. Train and manage student researchers on lab safety policies and maintain safety data sheets for all chemicals and reagents
  3. Assist student researchers in trouble shooting technical problems related to projects.
  4. Supervise graduate assistants and student workers assigned to the research laboratories.
  5. Any other staff duties as assigned by the chair of the Biology Department.


Qualifications:



  • Educations: Bachelors degree in the sciences
  • Experience: 1 year minimum experience working in a research lab (including as an undergraduate student researcher)
