Description

The Educator Scholars Recruiter plays a key role in connecting area students with the scholarship programs of the College of Education. This position is responsible for building relationships with area schools and non-profits to advertise the scholarships and encourage students to major in Education. The Recruiter manages the application and selection process for scholarships and helps transition scholarship recipients from senior year of high school into their freshman year of college.

This position reports to: Lipscomb Educator Scholars Program Director

Key Responsibilities:

Outreach:



  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with partner organizations such as OASIS College Connection, Conexion Americas, and YMCA Achievers
  • Develop relationships with school counselors and teachers, including AVID programs, Senior Capstone, and Teaching as a Profession teachers, charter school College Counselors
  • Serve as a guest speaker in area after-school programs and Teaching as Profession classrooms as needed
  • Work to develop expertise or other ways of volunteering to support partners such as presentations on college essays, life as a freshman, interview practice and advice, college applications, etc


Recruitment:



  • identify 50+ high school seniors each year who are interested in the Education scholarships
  • partner with the Admissions Counselor charged with recruiting MNPS students to support efforts to increase applications and identify possible students
  • conduct direct outreach to students who are identified through Admissions, schools, or community partners
  • design and host at least two outreach events initiated and led by LES staff on campus each year
  • engage with families as needed to answer questions about teaching, college, tuition costs, etc
  • meet regularly with Program Director and Director of Undergraduate Programs
  • other duties as needed


Application and Selection Process:



  • manage the collection of application materials with a goal of 20-25 applicants
  • host Interview Days and coordinate the Selection Committee
  • announce scholarship recipients and track their process to accept or decline scholarships; manage the wait list as needed
  • host a Welcome Event for all incoming scholarship recipients
  • partner with the Program Director to host summer onboarding experiences and events as needed to support incoming freshmen as they transition to college
  • other duties as needed


Summer Activities & Freshmen Transition:



  • Develop a strategy to conduct outreach at area schools and after school programs to advertise the summer camp to younger students including lunch room visits, AVID classroom visits, career fair visits, etc
  • Develop relationships with teachers serving sophomores and juniors to help advertise camp
  • Design and lead the summer camp for high school students and incoming freshmen
  • Ensure incoming freshmen walk through and complete each task on their Bison Portal checklist
  • Work with the Program Director to develop a transition plan for the incoming freshmen


College of Education duties:



  • Attend Admitted Student events in the spring - Purple & Gold Weekend, etc
  • Attend Lipscomb Fridays as needed when known prospective students attend
  • Support any campus visits from area schools, elementary, middle & high schools including Croft Bison Bunch, Rosebank Elementary, etc
  • Other duties as needed
