Your future role

Alstom is accelerating the deployment of robotics in its industrial processes to produce rolling stock and components. As part of an innovation program focused on robotics, welding, and inspection, and in anticipation of the deployment of a new robotic line of 10+ robots we are looking for a V.I.E. to join our industrial department within the Hornell (Hornell, United States) team.

Your objectives will be to support local teams in the test, definition and development of a new robotic line to spot weld trains a new robot laser cell both new installation need to be validated and brought to mature production level.

We'll look to you for:

1.Operations:



  • Support in defining & validating protocol of programs structure/ principles
  • Support in adjusting parts programs:

    • Testing paths and interference with the off-line programming tools (Real Time Robotics software / Roboguide)


  • Contribute to PLC programs tests and validation
  • Contribute to internal acceptance of process qualification
  • Contribute to Robots Maintenance plan instructions definition, and put in place
  • Contribute to definition of Operators/ internal resources training plan
  • Implement and monitor of Automation & Robotics KPIs:

    • Welding automated ratio KPIs
    • Usage KPIs
    • Robotics maturity KPIs (Expertise, Maintenance)


  • Assist on-site during technology transfers or knowledge acquisition processes.
  • Develop expert notes and reports to document finding and recommendations.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities, focusing on enhancing safety, quality, productivity, product flow, and reliability



* Innovation :



  • Support the offline end-to-end programming exploration:

    • Define the technical requirements related to the software & hardware to set up simulation lab based on the collaboration of Alstom Automation experts with RTR organization
    • Design of lab architecture/layout
    • Purchase hardware for the lab (PLC, Industrial PC, Rapid Plan license)
    • Execute the lab's installation in Alstom facility (Hornell) with Alstom experts and RTR team
    • Testing the setup of simulation lab and systems' interface
    • Validate the interfaces with all the other tools used in the robotic station within a simulated environment (based Metra configuration)
    • Provide test results' report: data, benefits and constraints witnessed during the simulation


  • Participate in Innovation committee to explore and assess potential use cases to be replicated on site

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechatronics or Robotics
  • Experience or understanding of industrialization and automation processes
  • Knowledge of robotic systems and automation technologies
  • Familiarity with industrial practices
  • Able to foster communications between multiple stakeholders (process expert, external engineers, industrial functions...)
  • Able to work across sites/functions in a multi-cultural environment
  • Team spirit approach and good communication skills
  • Fluency in English
  • A valid driver's license (preferred)
