The Regional Donor Relations for Major Gifts and Foundations (DRD) is an elevated position, with responsibility for being a thought and action leader in relational fundraising in the Service Extension Department. This position is integral to the success of Service Extension's fundraising efforts, specifically through strategic, proactive relationship management of portfolio donors with major giving and/or capacity. The DRD will take these donors through the donor cycle, with the goal of securing gifts at the donor's highest giving capacity. The DRD will travel to meet donors as needed and produce regular reporting to the Divisional Headquarters in Wauwatosa, WI.

The DRD manages a portfolio of approximately 75 current and potential major donors, and foundations with the ultimate goal of securing gifts at the donor's highest giving capacity. Specifically in this role, the DRD will:



  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift donors, acting as the primary contact between The Salvation Army and the assigned portfolio, with an emphasis on securing programmatic gifts of $5,000 and higher, increasing levels of gifts to The Salvation Army while retaining and strengthening existing giving
  • Develop and manage a portfolio strategy, including setting customized solicitation plans for top individual donors; utilizing tactics to qualify other donors for increased giving; fulfilling a robust annual goal; and effectively stewardship existing donors for ongoing and increased giving
  • Ensure excellent donor service, as exemplified by strong relationship building, timely responsiveness, high-quality interactions, personalized communications, etc.
  • Collaborate with Service Extension Staff, programs, finance, development, communications and administrative support staff to prioritize and highlight giving opportunities that align with Service Extension funding needs; effectively presents these opportunities to donors to match with their interests
  • Utilize appropriate tools, tactics and strategies to qualify, cultivate and solicit donors, including calls, emails, tours and events.
  • Work in close conjunction with other team members, pursuing harmonious collaboration between direct marketing, social media, foundation, corporation, and planned giving staff for optimal integrated strategies in regard to major donor communications as well as overall initiatives
  • Maintain updated donor "files" and report / input all activities and results of donors contacts into the Salesforce CRM
  • Supports and contributes to overall territorial policies, business practices and strategies to increase major gifts revenue and program growth (as requested).


Education: Associate's degree, preferably in non-profit management, organizational management, marketing, business administration, or related area

Certifications: Valid Wisconsin driver's license with clearance to drive from TSA insurance.

Experience: Five years of experience in a non-profit fundraising role with a proven track record of securing major gifts and Foundation Gifts of $5,000 plus.

Or - Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully fundraise
