Description

The Process Technician is responsible for maintaining, improving, and optimizing existing manufacturing processes to ensure consistent quality, efficiency, and safety in production. This hands-on role provides advanced technical support for process troubleshooting, machine programming, and continuous improvement initiatives. You will partner closely with Engineering, Quality, and Production to sustain daily operations while driving process enhancements that reduce cost, improve throughput, and increase reliability.

This full-time position will report to theManufacturing Engineering Manager at our Safco Products location in Milford, Iowa.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the primary technical resource for assigned production areas or processes.
  • Monitor daily production performance, addressing process or equipment-related issues promptly.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for process, equipment, or quality issues.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining process documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), and work instructions.
  • Create, modify, and maintain machine programs (CNC, or other automated systems) to support product and process requirements, with efficiency and reliability in mind.
  • Validate and test new or revised programs, ensuring conformance to quality, safety, and performance standards.
  • Support new equipment installation, setup, and integration into production workflows.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Engineering to troubleshoot programming-related downtime or errors.
  • Identify and implement process and equipment improvements using lean manufacturing and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Conduct time studies, process capability analyses, and machine performance evaluations to drive efficiency gains.
  • Support initiatives to reduce waste, improve cycle times, and enhance product quality.
  • Assist in developing jigs, fixtures, and tooling to improve manufacturability and consistency.
  • Maintain accurate programming records, backups, and revision history for all equipment.
  • Update and control process documentation, work instructions, and change records.
  • Support process audits and validation activities.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing & Process Engineers to validate and support process changes and ensure successful implementation into production.
  • Provide training and technical guidance to operators and team members.
  • Communicate effectively across departments to ensure alignment on technical standards and process improvements.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Associate degree or technical diploma in Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 5+ years of hands-on manufacturing or process experience.
  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and specifications.
  • Proficient in using measurement tools and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation skills.
  • Comfortable collaborating cross-functionally and managing multiple projects.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Skilled in root cause problem solving and lean manufacturing methods.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Proficiency in programming and troubleshooting production equipment (CNC, or other potential automation software) strongly preferred.
  • Background in supporting production in a high mix, low-to-medium volume environment a plus.
  • Experience in wood & metal fabrication departments a plus.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The starting pay rate for this position is$22.75 -$28.44 per hour. The compensation posted is the anticipated pay for the position at the time of the posting. We may pay above or below posted amount based on several factors, including, but not limited to education and/or certifications, skills, experience, or work location. Some positions may qualify for additional compensation in the form of bonuses.
