WVU Online at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an on-site Visual and Graphic Designer. About the Opportunity The Visual and Graphic Designer is a key creative contributor on the WVU Online Marketing and Communications team. This position is responsible for creating visually compelling designs across digital, print, and multimedia platforms. The designer translates complex ideas into high-quality visuals that support programmatic and brand marketing campaigns, digital advertising, website design, and brand storytelling. Working closely with marketing strategists, writers, developers, and other university stakeholders, the Visual and Graphic Designer ensures brand consistency while bringing fresh, innovative design solutions to elevate the visual presence of WVU Online and the programs it supports across all media channels. The ideal candidate is a versatile designer with strong sense of creativity, exceptional technical skills, and a collaborative mindset. What You'll Do
- Design and produce a wide range of visual assets including graphics, banners, social media content, web visuals, print collateral, video elements, and motion graphics.
- Translate marketing concepts and strategies into engaging, on-brand visual content for digital, print, video, and web platforms.
- Ensure brand consistency by adhering to West Virginia University's visual brand identity standards while creatively enhancing WVU Online's visual impact.
- Collaborate with WVU Online marketing team members and university partners to develop creative solutions that drive engagement and conversions through digital advertising and other media.
- Apply user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) principles to create intuitive, accessible designs across platforms and screen sizes.
- Create and manage design files, templates, and reusable visual assets for cross-channel use.
- Edit and assemble video assets using Adobe Premiere Pro and other relevant tools; contribute to visual storytelling through motion design and animation as needed.
- Support HTML5 ad production and explore creative applications of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence in design workflows.
- Incorporate stakeholder feedback, iterate quickly on concepts, and maintain a high level of attention to detail and quality control.
- Stay current with visual design trends, tools, and technologies, and contribute to a culture of creativity and innovation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (Graphic Design or a related field preferred)
- A minimum of two (2) years of related experience
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro.
- Confidence in collaborating with cross-functional teams in a marketing, creative, or communications environment.
- Strong visual design skills with an understanding of layout, typography, color theory, and branding.
- Familiarity with UI/UX design principles and tools.
- Basic understanding of motion graphics, animation, or interest in learning animation tools and techniques.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to take feedback and adapt designs accordingly.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with the capacity to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, polished work.
- Curiosity and drive to learn new tools, trends, and emerging technologies in the visual design space.
