The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a full-time Senior Security System Engineer - Department of Defense. The Senior Security System Engineer designs, develops, implements, and integrates cybersecurity architectures for facility and operational technology environments, including computing environments, network environments, and enclave solutions supporting Industrial Control Systems such as UMCS, ESS, FAS, SCADA, and metering. The SSSE leads RMF activities to achieve Assess and Authorize outcomes, engineers secure configurations and segmentation, validates ports, protocols, and services, directs vulnerability management, and supports testing and accreditation. This role supports a Department of Defense mission and collaborates with program management, engineering, network, and field teams to deliver secure, reliable systems.

Required Experience & Skills



  • 10 years of experience in cybersecurity engineering or systems engineering, with substantial work on control systems or mission systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership designing and integrating IA solutions for CE, NE, and enclave environments supporting facility-related control systems.
  • Hands-on experience executing the DoD Risk Management Framework to achieve IATT, IATO, or ATO for FRCS or similar systems.
  • Proficiency with DISA STIGs and SRGs, secure baseline configuration, system hardening, PPS whitelisting, logging, and auditing.
  • Experience with vulnerability scanning and remediation workflows using tools such as ACAS and SCAP, and coordination with enterprise endpoint security solutions.
  • Network security engineering for ICS, including segmentation, firewalls, allowlisting, and remote access control.
  • Familiarity with ICS protocols and security considerations, such as BACnet and Modbus.
  • Ability to produce RMF package artifacts including SSP, POA&M, SAR, and supporting diagrams and inventories.
  • Strong communication skills for stakeholder engagement and technical documentation.
  • Ability to travel to active project sites, including secure facilities.
  • Must meet DoDD 8570.01 and DoD 8570-M requirements for IAM Level 3 and IAT Level 3, or IASAE Level 3.


Preferred Experience & Skills



  • Certifications such as CISSP, CASP+, CCSP, GICSP, GRID, or ISA/IEC 62443 credentials.
  • Experience securing ESS and FAS platforms and their interfaces to other control systems.
  • Experience with enterprise monitoring and SIEM integration for OT environments.
  • Prior work on federal task order contracts for facility modernization or ICS programs.


Required Education



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, information systems, cybersecurity, or related discipline.


Preferred Education



  • Advanced degree in a related field or additional graduate certificate work in cybersecurity engineering.

Clearance



  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.



Travel



  • Minimum 25% to job sites CONUS and OCONUS as required by task orders.
