7:00 am - 4:00 pm; Monday - Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary. (The workday begins when the library opens.)

Mandatory Position

This position is designated as 'mandatory' and, when contacted to report to work, the incumbent is expected to reach the campus as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions or other extenuating circumstances.
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this patron-facing position is to open the library on weekday mornings, and to work regular hours at the circulation desk to assist patrons in accessing library resources, using technology, printers, copiers, and online or software applications. The person in this position is also expected to be available to work extra circulation desk shifts as needed at Atkins or the Architecture Library, and will be designated as mandatory for emergency conditions. This position will be the primary contact for the Friends of the Library program and will liaise with library administration to maintain and communicate that program. Additionally, this position is responsible for processing patron fine reviews, liaising with university partners to ensure outstanding customer service within Atkins Library, and processing library materials for circulation. This position reports to the Patron Services Manager and is part of the Access Services team.
Minimum Education/Experience
Completion of high school and two (2) years experience in office support, preferably as a library technician in a library, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Essential Job Duties

  • Open the library on weekday mornings and work a regular schedule at the Information Research Desk
  • Process and report the library's daily deposits, serve as point person for finance matters, liaise with campus finance partners to ensure unit compliance
  • Assist patrons in accessing library resources, using technology, printers, copiers, and online or software applications.
  • Work extra circulation desk shifts as needed at Atkins or the Architecture Library, and will be designated as mandatory for emergency conditions.
  • Act as the primary contact for the Friends of the Library program and work with library administration to maintain and communicate information about that program.

Other Work Responsibilities
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
- Bachelor's degree.
- Familiarity with library circulation functions, and electronic resources.
- General computer skills and the ability to troubleshoot computer, copier, scanner, and printer issues.
- Experience providing excellent customer service in an academic library setting.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
